Mahwah May 29, 2013 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • Page 5 Demolition makes way for special needs housing by Frank J. McMahon A demolition company recently tore down an abandoned house that was located on property on Ramapo Valley Road (Route 202) that was donated to the township last year. In March, the township council awarded the demolition job to the GL Group, Inc. of Bloomingdale, which was the lowest responsible bidder for the project submitting a bid not to exceed $18,900. The house was on one of three lots fronting on Ramapo Valley Road and consisting of about 1.5 acres of land at the corner of Strysko Avenue. The property, currently assessed at $589,200, was donated from the estate of Judith Webster at no cost to the township. Mahwah officials plan to develop the property for affordable housing for people with special needs. Mahwah Township Administrator Brian Campion advised that the Webster family made the philanthropic donation to the township in Judith Webster’s memory. The potential developer, the Bergen County United Way/Madeline Corporation partnership, plans to design and build affordable housing improvements on the site (continued on page 17) Grateful group Mahwah Cub Scout Den 8 visited Officer Horn at the Mahwah Police Department and learned about law enforcement.
