Area May 29, 2013 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • Page 15 Bergen County American Legion in conjunction with the Legion’s National Membership Team held a drive to transfer current Headquarters Post 1000 members to a local Post in Bergen County. The effort followed National’s district/county post revitalization program. Prior to starting the process, over 2,000 letters were sent to prospective members informing them of the program American Legion holds drive to move headquarters and providing them the opportunity to come to talk to a local post representative and/or to talk to a Legion Service Officer to discuss benefits, or help with a filing a claim. The effort was extremely successful, as the post was able to obtain permission to transfer 219 members from Post 1000 to a local Post and signed up five new members and renewed two members. They had 26 team members manning the phones representing 14 posts, 1 Auxiliary Unit and 1 SAL Squad over a three day period. The effort was hosted by Rochelle Park Post 170 and led by Michele Steinmetz, assistant director Membership Legion National Headquarters; and Bob Salvini, commander of Bergen County American Legion.
