The women’s group meets on Thursdays at 10 a.m. New this season is pickleball. The game is played on a tennis court with the net lowered to 34 inches at the center and is played with a short paddle and a perforated plastic baseball similar to the whiffle ball. This game can be played by two or four players. Interested persons may sign up at the senior center or call Al Crescenzo at (201) 825-2925 for information. Beginners are welcome. Seniors are invited to try the dance cardio workout, Zumba Gold, the senior version of the popular Zumba craze. Call Doug Rennie at (201) 805-8115 for information about this musical workout. Sunday movies will continue with “Life of Pi” on June 2 at 1 p.m. Join the group for refreshments at 12:30 p.m. with Marge and Philly. The Ramsey Seniors will visit the Bronx Zoo and Arthur Avenue on Wednesday, June 12. Participants may stop by the Congo Gorilla Forest, the Wild Asia Monorail, the Butterfly Garden, the zoo shuttle, a 4D theater, and Jungle World. Following the morning activities, the group will visit Arthur Avenue to enjoy the Italian restaurants, bakeries, butcher shops, and more. Participants will have lunch on their own. Sign up at borough hall, 33 North Central Avenue in Ramsey. The cost is $38 per person. Checks should be made payable to “Ramsey Seniors.” This trip requires some walking. Comfortable shoes, a hat, and sunscreen are suggested. The bus will depart from Finch Park at 8:45 a.m. and return about 5:30 p.m. For a monthly calendar of events, stop by the senior center in Finch Park. Ramsey residents over the age of 60 may join. Daisy Troops seek new members Ramsey girls are invited to join the local Daisy Troops. All girls who will be entering any Ramsey kindergarten program, or who reside in Ramsey, are eligible to join. Registration forms are available in the children’s department of the Ramsey Library, located at 30 Wyckoff Avenue. Completed application may be mailed to: 237 West Oak Street in Ramsey. Information may also be e-mailed to travelgav@yahoo.com. Leisure Club plans events The Ramsey Leisure Club will host a luncheon at the Ramsey Country Club on Tuesday, June 11. The group will visit the New York Botanical Gardens on Thursday, June 27. The garden visit will include a narrated tram tour. Afterward, the group will lunch at Amelia’s Restaurant on Arthur Avenue. Ramsey residents who are over the age of 55 are invited to attend Leisure Club meetings. Sessions are held at 11 a.m. the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at the Lutheran Church. ESL Tutors sought The Ramsey Public Library is seeking tutors for its large and active English as a Second Language program. Ramsey residents interested in becoming ESL tutors are invited to the next Tutor Training Workshop, which will be held at the Westwood Public Library. The workshop will meet from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on June 17, 20, 24, and 27. This training prepares tutors to teach adults to read, write, and speak English. All books and supplies are furnished free of charge for those tutoring for Literacy Volunteers of Pascack Valley, which includes Ramsey Public Library. Upon completion of this training, tutors will be matched to students who are eager to learn English. Registration is limited. The Westwood Library is located at 49 Park Avenue in Westwood. ‘Of Gods and Men’ discussion set The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, located at 55 Wyckoff Avenue in Ramsey, will hold an Adult Education Night on Tuesday, May 28 at 7:30 p.m. to discuss the movie “Of Gods and Men.” This award-winning French film is based on the true story of Christian monks in Algeria. The group will view portions of the film and have time for discussion. Participants are encouraged to view the film prior to the program. School to host Golf Outing Saint Paul Interparochial School in Ramsey will host its first Golf Outing fundraiser on Monday, June 24 at the Ramsey Golf & Country Club. The cost is $175 and includes lunch, golf with cart, buffet dinner with open bar, contests, prizes, and more. Non-golfers are welcome to come for dinner at $50 per person. The school is offering sponsorship opportunities for interested businesses or individuals. Proceeds from the event will be used for the school’s operating expenses.
