Christian and Corporal David M. Sonka, 23, of Colorado were killed as they conducted combat operations. Christian was assigned to the Second Marine Special Operations Battalion at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He was reportedly conducting training on May 4 when a soldier from the Afghan national Army shot Christian, Sonka, and a military dog. The shooter then killed the other members of the special
operation unit. Christian had served previous tours of duty in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Pakistan. This was his fifth tour. For the last year, he was living in a home he bought near Camp Lejeune. He is being remembered as an avid football player and musician, and reportedly had built a music studio in his home.
