Edmund A. Beley of Mahwah and Seaside Heights died May 3. He was 83. He served as a sergeant during the Korean War in the National Guard New Jersey Tank Division. He attended Kearny High School and was a track and football star playing with Alex Webster, the late New York Giants running back and coach. After graduating from Fairleigh Dickinson University, he was employed for 31 years by American Brake Shoe Company (Abex) as a project engineer in the metallurgical laboratory. He worked for Breed Technologies, Inc., innovators of car airbag systems, and finished his working career with American Cyanamid as an international records manager. He retired in 1999. He was a member of the American Metallurgical Society. He is survived by his wife Rosemary (née Kurucz), his daughters Karen Beley-Feder of Hillsborough and Michelle Beley-Bianco of Metuchen, and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by his siblings Edgar Gilbert and Charlotte Greder. Arrangements were made by Van EmburghSneider-Pernice Funeral Home in Ramsey. Leona May Blake, nee Sellers, of Macomb, Illinois, formerly of Ridgewood and Sudbury, Massachusetts, died May 1. She was 97. She received her RN from Harlem Hospital in 1939. She is survived by her children Pamella McLean of Macomb, Illinois and Gordon Blake of Secaucus, three grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Marion Phillips of Scotsville, New York. She was predeceased by her husband Arthur Gordon Blake. Evarista Boland, nee Monahan, of Wyckoff, formerly of Cranbury and Weehawken, died May 4. She was 92. After raising her family, she resumed a successful career as a textile business manager in New York City. She is survived by her children Catherine Boyle, John C. and James F., seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Jim. Eric D. Christian of North Carolina, formerly of Ramsey, died May 4. He was 39. A Marine special forces staff sergeant and former Ramsey High School football player, he was killed in action in Farah province, Afghanistan. The 1993 Ramsey High School graduate was serving his fifth tour, which included stints in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Pakistan. He entered the Marine Corps in May 2004,

and at the time of his death was assigned to 2nd Marine Special Operations Battalion, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He attended Grambling State University in Louisiana, where he also played football. He then spent time on the West Coast in Seattle and San Francisco, pursuing his love of music. He was a professional-quality guitarist, keyboard player, and drummer. He outside Camp Lejeune. He is survived by his mother Linda of Warwick, New York, his father Robert of Virginia, and his brothers Chris, Phil, and Mark. A memorial service is expected to be held in Ramsey. Jonathan Reid DeLucca of Ho-Ho-Kus died May 7. He was 39. After attending Virginia Commonwealth University and Northeastern University, he became property manager for Atlantic and Gulf Limited, LLC in Ho-HoKus. He was a parishioner of Saint Luke’s R.C. Church in Ho-Ho-Kus. He is survived by his parents John J. DeLucca and Patricia Ann Reid, and his uncles and aunts Nick and Arlene DeLucca and Donald C. Mary Reid. He is also survived by his cousins Todd DeLucca and Deanna, Michael, and Heather Reid. He was engaged to marry Noi Phimmasanh. Arrangements were made by Feeney Funeral Home in Ridgewood. Before retiring, she was an executive secretary for over 40 years at Lanvin – Charles of the Ritz, in New York. She was a parishioner of Saint Elizabeth’s Church in Wyckoff and co-president of its senior citizens’ club. She was a member of the Wyckoff Senior Club. She is survived by her son Patrick Dugan, her sister Eileen Slevin, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters Mary Corkery, Margaret Macaulay, Catherine Zoller, and her brothers Cornelius and James. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He worked for over 20 years for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, after working for ABC News. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel R.C. Church in Ridgewood. He was a member of the Hobbyists. He is survived by his wife Margaret “Peggy” Hughes and his children John Hughes Jr., Carol Thomas, and Marianne McGuinness. He is also survived by seven grandchildren. Arrangements were made by Feeney Funeral Home in Ridgewood. Richard A. LaVigna of Waldwick died May 5. He was 82. He was a U.S. Air Force and Navy veteran. He served during the Korean War. Jr. Thomas A., Christopher J., Mark F., Maryellen Mullikin, James P., and Stephen R. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and sisters Patricia McCabe and Sister Georgellen (Mary Lucy) Archibald, RSHM. She was predeceased by her infant son Brian Joseph. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband Francesco.
