Heirloom Tomato & Herb Sale announced The Woman’s Club of Ramsey will host its Tenth Annual Heirloom Tomato & Herb Transplant Sale on Saturday, May 18. This popular event will be held in the parking lot at the Masonic Temple located at the corner of Lake Street and North Franklin Turnpike in Ramsey The sale will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sale items will include over 100 varieties of heirloom tomato plants and a good selection of herb, pepper, eggplant, squash, and cucumber plants. This year, some of the tomato varieties will include: black pineapple, cherry falls, honey bunch, and ruby gold. The club will again offer the famous Ramapo, Moreton, and Rutgers varieties. School to host annual Car Show Ramsey High School will host its Third Annual Car Show on Saturday, May 18. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 256 East Main Street in Ramsey. (Rain date: May 19.) The event will feature trophies, and food available for purchase. Spectators will be admitted free of charge. The cost to pre-register a car is $10. Book groups plan discussions The First Presbyterian Church of Ramsey’s Connections Book Group will discuss “The Light Between Oceans” by M.L. Stedman on Wednesday, May 15. This tale concerns a lighthouse keeper and his wife who take in a baby who washes up on their shore. These compelling characters seek to find their North Star in a world where there is no right
answer, and justice for one person is another’s tragic loss. The group will meet at 7:30 p.m. in the Metzger Room. All are welcome. On May 29, the Literary Ladies book discussion group will meet at 10 a.m. to discuss Elizabeth Strout’s “The Burgess Boys.” Based in Maine, this story explores the sibling relationships of a family and their differing ways of dealing with an earlier tragedy. Call Meg Bray at (845) 357-2159 Quilters sought for church mission The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, located at 55 Wyckoff Avenue in Ramsey, hosts quilters’ meetings at 10 a.m. on the first and third Mondays of the month. The group prepares quilts to be sent to Lutheran World Relief for global distribution. Novice and experienced quilters are welcome. The group is seeking donations of gently-used sheets, thin blankets, and quilt batting. Leisure Club to visit Botanical Gardens The Ramsey Leisure Club will host a bus trip to the New York Botanical Gardens on Thursday, June 27. Following the garden visit, the group will lunch at Amelia’s Restaurant on Arthur Avenue. The cost is $59 for members and $64 for non members. Senior news The Ramsey Seniors will visit the Bronx Zoo and Arthur Avenue on Wednesday, June 12. Participants may stop by the Congo Gorilla Forest, the Wild Asia Monorail, the Butterfly Garden, the zoo shuttle, a 4D theater, and Jungle World. Following the morning activities, the group will visit Arthur Avenue to enjoy the Italian restaurants, bakeries, butcher shops, and more. Participants will have lunch on their own. Signups will begin May 16 at 9 a.m. at borough hall,
33 North Central Avenue in Ramsey. The cost is $38 per person. Checks should be made payable to “Ramsey Seniors.” This trip requires some walking. Comfortable shoes, a hat, and sunscreen are suggested. The bus will return to Ramsey at approximately 5:30 p.m. Register for summer camp programs Registration for the Youth & Children’s Summer Camps Programs at the Ramsey Adult School has begun. Two camp experiences are available for Ramsey district students and out-of-district students. Summer Sensations, a morning enrichment program for children entering kindergarten through grade five, offers workshops that stimulate creative thinking while integrating reading, math, science, computer, music, art, and other skills. Children will build skills and explore special interests in workshops of their choice, designed and taught by teaching professionals. The camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., five days per week. Three, one-week sessions will be offered July 8 through 26. The program will be held at Tisdale School, 200 Island Road in Ramsey. Summer Vibrations is a three-week performance-based music camp for children who will be entering grades five through eight. The camp includes instrument lessons, electives, ensembles, and weekly master forums. Classes are taught by professionals, including certified music teachers, post-graduate teachers, and touring professionals who are versed in jazz, rock, and classical music and the integration of music and technology. Rock Band will be held for students with two years of experience on their instruments. The class is designed to bring together serious musicians who want to start a band or polish an existing band into a performance-ready unit. Summer Vibrations will run July 8 through 26 from 9:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., five days per week at Dater School, 35 School Street in Ramsey.
