Upon the officers’ arrival, a member of the housekeeping staff reported seeing what she believed to be a pistol-style firearm left on the night stand inside of Room 225 while she was cleaning the room. The Ramsey police officers responded to the second floor of the hotel and made numerous attempts to rouse someone in Room 225, which was locked. The officers secured the outside of the room, while Ptl. Sanders prepared a search warrant application. Sanders’ warrant application was approved by Judge Joseph Rotolo. At 2:45 p.m., unforced entry was made into the room using the electronic key card. Upon entry, officers found the room to be unoccupied. Once entry was gained into the room, a black firearm with a chrome slide was found lying on top of the night stand directly next to the bed on the north side of the room. The firearm, later identified as a Zoraki M-906 9mm model, was inside a tan/beige colored holster. Police also found 50 rounds of 9mm ammunition, which appeared to be blanks. Officers remained at the scene until the suspect returned to the hotel at approximately 6 p.m., when he was arrested. During the course of investigation, it was determined that the man was in possession of a false California driver’s license and a false Social Security number and card. Bail was set at $50,000, no 10 percent option. He was in the county jail and due to appear in Ramsey’s court.
