Written and directed by students, this revue features songs and dances from a variety of Broadway shows. The program will begin at 7 p.m. at the high school located at 50 Ridge Road. The evening will include a special auction with a variety of prizes including four VIP tickets to a Yankee game, a custom cake or cupcakes for 75 from Cakes by Barbra, local restaurant dining certificates, a glam makeover and fashion consultation for 10 at Lord & Taylor, an annual family membership to the Museum of Modern History, and more. Library announces events for adults The Mahwah Public Library is offering a variety of programs for adults in early May. The programs are free and tickets are not necessary. Seats will be available on a “first come” basis. The Metropolitan Skyliners Big Swing Band will perform a concert on Sunday, May 5 at 2 p.m. Founded by John Micalizio, a member of the Tommy Dorsey Band and arranger for George Shearing and other major recording artists, the Metropolitan Skyliners Swing Band has, since 1952, remained true in style and composition, performing only the original arrangements of the great band leaders. The concert will feature the works of band leaders of the ‘30s through the ‘90s, including Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Chuck Mangione, and Stan Getz. On May 6, raw food consultant Karen Ranzi, M.A. will present a talk on “Eating Healthy with Raw Foods” at 7 p.m. Ranzi will discuss the benefits of eating many foods raw as the best way to benefit from maximum nutrient density. She will also offer tips on how to make better food choices and prepare easy and nutritious meals. She is the author of “Creating Healthy Children” and the upcoming book “Raw Food Fun for Families.” Travel “down the shore” with Margaret Buchholz at 7 p.m. on May 8 as she illustrates the shore experience over the decades. This slide show will include images of the shore’s landscape and environment before development, its evolution from simple shanties to Victorian cottages, and then modern structures. Her program includes stories and pictures of sailing and fishing; treks by horse, stagecoach, train, and car; beach camping; lifeguards and coastal rescues; bathing beauties in rented woolen suits; violent storms; and the endless struggle to resist a hungry sea. Writings by such well-known figures as John J. Audubon, Walt Whitman, Robert Louis Stevenson, Stephen Crane, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle are included, as are selections from private journals, letters, and diaries from those visiting the shore. Buchholz is a longtime Barnegat Bay resident. She is the former publisher of “The Beachcomer,” a weekly Jersey Shore newspaper, and co-author of “Great Storms of the Jersey Shore.” The library is located at 100 Ridge Road. The event will be held from noon to 2 p.m. at the church located at 100 Island Road. The tea will include sandwiches, activities, and a gift for Mom. The cost is $5 per person or $15 per family. Senior news The Mahwah Senior Center is sponsoring a trip to the Culinary Institute of America and Locust Grove in Hyde Park, New York on Friday, May 10. The cost for Mahwah residents is $51 per person and includes deluxe motor coach transportation, a guided tour of Locust Grove, and a three course lunch at Caterina De Medici located at the culinary institute. Home of telegraph inventor and artist Samuel F. B. Morse, Locust Grove is a unique combination of landscaped lawns, sweeping vistas, elegant collections, and Italianate architecture, making it one of the most handsome Hudson River estates. The group will depart from the Mahwah Senior Center, 475 Corporate Drive, at 9:30 a.m. On May 2, the Mahwah seniors are invited to a screening of “Argo” in the Great Room of the center. The film will begin at noon and refreshments will be served. A free dance class will be offered on May 13 at noon. The program will include a mix of ballroom, Latin salsa, the Hustle, and more. The Bergen County Housing Coalition will send a representative to the senior center on May 16 to discuss tenant rights with the seniors. Foundation seeks scholarship applicants The Mahwah Schools Foundation will award two scholarships of $2,000 each to one female and one male Mahwah High School senior planning to pursue a college education. Applicants should be well-rounded, ambitious, and of good character. All students are eligible as long as the total scholarship awards they have been awarded do not exceed 75 percent of their expected college tuition, room, board, and fees. According to the developer’s latest external traffic access plan, the mall access at Leisure Lane will be used for emergency vehicle access only and the main entrance to the mall will be at the Crossroads North entrance which is farther north on Route 17 past the Mountainside Road overpass. The road leading from the mall to the intersection with Mountainside Road will be a one-way exit from the mall and a traffic light will be installed at that intersection. A new cloverleaf ramp will be constructed on the west side of Route 17 from the Mountainside Road overpass for traffic exiting the mall at the intersection of Mountainside and Cross roads to reach Route 17 South without using the Stag Hill Road intersection. The public hearing will continue at the May 20 meeting of the board with testimony from a professional planner and a security expert.
