Angels in the Outfield of Mahwah will conduct its fourth annual Baseball Equipment Drive this year. This program brings new and gently-used baseball equipment to needy young athletes in the New Jersey area. Mahwah High School ballplayer and Sophomore Shane Curry is at the helm of the effort this year. Angels in the Outfield will be collecting bats, balls, cleats, baseball clothing, catcher’s equipment, gloves, helmets, practice equipment, bags, bases, and anything else a ballplayer can use. The charity is a family project that was started by Shane’s older brother, Ian. Mahwah ballplayer Brandon Cowen also helped out as part of his Bar Mitzvah project. Since Ian is at college now, Shane will be handling the collection. “We are donating this year to the City of Paterson. They have 800 young ballplayers and said they could really use

some help giving those players what they need to learn and play,” Shane said. “However, if you know a child who needs something, we will gladly give to anyone in need if we have what they need. We have learned to match the specific need with the right equipment.” Since its inception, Angels in the Outfield has brought hundreds of items to both the Washington Park Little League and Pershing Field Little Leagues of Jersey City and to families in the area. There will be a collection box at 15 Pierson Court in Mahwah. Those who drop off equipment are encouraged to leave their names so the Curry family can thank them. Donors can also arrange for a pickup. Call (201) 961-2437 or e-mail AngelsinTheOutifeld2@yahoo.com. Monetary donations are also welcome. The deadline for collections is April 12.
