Juniors set sale, seek donations The Junior Woman’s Club of Ramsey is currently seeking donations for its Second Annual Tag Sale & Bake Sale, which will be held May 11. All proceeds from this event will be donated to Ramsey’s civic organizations. The club is seeking donations of children’s toys, clothing, household items, small appliances, and more. Last year, the club netted over $1,700 from this sale and donated over $500 worth of items to Ramsey Responds. This year, the club is counting on the community’s help to make this event even more successful. Breakfast will support Cooperstown Team The Ramsey RBSA 2013 Cooperstown Team will hold an all-you-can-eat Pancake Breakfast fundraiser on Sunday, March 24 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. This event will be held at Chili’s Restaurant at 900 Route 17 North in Ramsey. Tickets may be purchased in advance or at the door for $5 per person. For advance tickets, contact Helena Corcoran at (201) 962-8262. All proceeds will help defray the cost of the team’s trip to New York for a Cooperstown Baseball Tournament. Parent group announces program Laura Impomeni will address the support group for Ramsey and Saddle River parents of children with special needs on Monday, March 25. The 7:30 p.m. program will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer at 55 Wyckoff Avenue in Ramsey. Impomeni, a licensed social worker, has been working with families who have children with special needs since 1998. Her presentation will focus on how parents can access the right resources in order to get the best care for their children. She will cover a variety of topics, including which types of specialists to visit for a variety of diagnoses, what to do with the information collected, how to keep organized, financial resources, parent support, and more.
Impomeni currently works at the Center for Child Development at Valley Hospital where she screens for developmental and learning disabilities, and collaborates with a team of specialists while guiding families toward the appropriate services or evaluations. Leisure Club plans activities Ramsey’s Leisure Club will take a three-day bus trip to the Tulip Festival in Albany May 9 through 11. The group will include a visit to the Saratoga Casino and Raceway, two nights lodging, two breakfasts, and two dinners. Participants will attend the Tulip Festival ceremonies, which include musical performers and the crowning of the Tulip Queen at Washington Park. An estimated 100,000 tulips will welcome visitors to the events of the day. A tour of the Brotherhood Winery will complete the itinerary. Anyone over the age of 55 is invited to attend the Leisure Club meetings on the second and fourth Tuesday at the Lutheran Church at 11 AM. All Ramsey residents are welcome. Seniors announce events The sign-up for the Ramsey Seniors’ trip to Spring Lake opened March 19 at Ramsey Borough Hall, 33 North Central Avenue in Ramsey. This trip is limited to Ramsey residents. This April 23 excursion to Doolan’s Restaurant will feature a day with entertainer Bobby Byrne. The bus will depart at 9 a.m. and will return at 5:30 p.m. Lunch includes a one-hour open bar, choice of entree, and wine or soda. Sing along with the Best of Broadway and enjoy favorite tunes from the ‘40s to the present. The price is $60 and is payable to Ramsey Seniors. The Bocce Boys are ready to spring into action. Join the group on Monday, April 1 at 1 p.m. to begin the season at the courts by the Ramsey Pool. In the event of inclement weather, there will be shuffleboard at the senior center in Finch Park.

Church to mark Holy Week The First Presbyterian Church, located at 15 Shuart Lane in Ramsey, will hold a Palm Sunday Service on March 24 at 10 a.m. The service will include a Children’s Palm Parade. A Maundy Thursday service with foot washing will be held March 28 at 8 p.m. in the chapel. On March 29, the Good Friday Service of Shadows will be held at 8 p.m. in the chapel. Services on Easter Sunday, March 31, will be held at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Services are broadcast on Cablevision Channel 76 on Tuesdays from 5 to 6 p.m. and on Wednesdays from 2 to 3 p.m. All are welcome. Symphony to present ‘Fantasies and Folksongs’ On Sunday March 24, the Ramsey Wind Symphony and Music Director Charles Yassky will present “Fantasies and Folksongs” at 3 p.m. at Northern Highlands Regional High School, 298 Hillside Avenue in Allendale. Anthony Mazzocchi, professor of trombone at Montclair University, will be featured in two pieces, “Capriccio” by Frank Gulino and “Morceau Symphonique” by Alexandre Guilman. In keeping with the theme for the afternoon, the program will also feature Norman Dello Joio’s “Fantasies on a Theme by Haydn” and the American concert band classic, “Fantasy on Civil War Themes” by Jerry Bilik. Other selections include themes from “War Horse” by John Williams and music by Gustav Holst and John Philip Sousa. General admission is $15. The cost for senior citizens and students is $10. The 60-member RWS has performed for the last 27 years, staging concerts and being featured in special civic and community functions.
