Page 4 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • March 13, 2013 Area The Bergen Highlands-Ramsey Rotary Club is seeking local high school juniors to participate in the club’s RYLA program this summer. RYLA stands for Rotary Youth Leadership Award, a program sponsored by the local Rotary Club for students who will be entering their senior year of high school in September. RYLA participants will attend an all-expense paid, six-day workshop focusing on leadership and professional development topics. They will join other talented young people selected by other Rotary Clubs throughout northern New Jersey. This year’s program will be held at Indian Head Camp in Honesdale, Pennsylvania from May 19 through 24. The object of RYLA is to demonstrate Rotary’s respect and concern for youth, to publicly recognize and nurture the high qualities of the many young people who are Bergen Highlands-Ramsey Rotary seeks RYLA reps rendering service to their communities, to stimulate and cultivate leadership potential in youth, and to provide a meaningful leadership training experience through such programs as sports, group discussion, guest speakers, and career guidance. Rotary International is a worldwide organization of more than 1.2 million business, professional, and community leaders who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. Local clubs like the Bergen Highlands/Ramsey Rotary Club also actively work with a wide range of local charities. The Bergen Highlands-Ramsey Rotary Club has been supporting educational and charitable needs in Allendale, Mahwah, Ramsey, Saddle River, and Upper Saddle River since 1952. The club provides college scholarships for local students and funding for local causes such as the Center for Food Action. Members run the children’s rides at Ramsey Day and Mahwah Day, with proceeds going toward the club’s charitable activities. As part of Rotary International, the club also raises funds to support educational, medical, and sanitary facilities in Nicaragua, India, and Haiti. The Bergen Highlands-Ramsey Rotary Club holds its weekly meetings on Mondays at 12:15 p.m. at Houlihan’s in Ramsey. The club is looking for prospective members who want to make a difference in people’s lives. Team wins division title Saint Paul’s seventh/eighth grade boys came in first place in the Northern Valley Parochial School Basketball League Varsity B Boys Division.
