School to host Golf Outing Saint Paul Interparochial School in Ramsey will host its first Golf Outing fundraiser on Monday, June 24 at the Ramsey Golf & Country Club. The cost is $175 and includes lunch, golf with cart, buffet dinner with open bar, contests, prizes, and more. Non-golfers are welcome to come for dinner at $50 per person. The school is offering sponsorship opportunities for interested businesses or individuals. Proceeds from the event will be used for the school’s operating expenses. Founded in 1952, Saint Paul Interparochial School is a pre-K through grade eight Roman Catholic elementary school that serves the parishes of Saint Paul in Ramsey, Church of the Presentation in Upper Saddle River, and Immaculate Conception and Immaculate Heart of Mary, both of which are located in Mahwah. The school is accredited by the Middle States Association. Dietician to speak Registered dietician Susan Kraus will present “Nutrition, Bones, and General Health” at the March 21 meeting of the Ramsey Seniors. The program will be held at 11 a.m. at the Senior Center at Finch Park. Kraus will discuss the latest findings in nutritional research and ways food and nutritional supplements can keep individuals healthy. A question and answer session will follow. Kraus, a clinical dietician with Hackensack University Medical Center, holds a master’s degree in nutrition and dietetics from New York University. She has been honored by the New Jersey Dietetic Association. This program is sponsored by the Ramsey Board of Health and Ramsey’s Healthy Bones classes. The talk is free and open to the public. Book groups plan discussions The Connections Book Group at the First Presbyterian Church in Ramsey will discuss Helen Simonson’s “Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand” on Wednesday, March 20. Register for summer camp programs The Youth & Children’s Programs at the Ramsey Adult School will begin taking registrations for summer camps on March 18. Two camp experiences are available for Ramsey district students and out-of-district students. Summer Sensations, a morning enrichment program designed for children entering kindergarten through grade five, offers workshops designed to stimulate creative thinking while integrating reading, math, science, computer, music, art, and other skills. Children will build skills and explore their special interests in workshops of their choice, designed and taught by teaching professionals. The camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., five days per week. Three, one-week sessions will be offered July 8 through 26. The program will be held at Tisdale School, 200 Island Road in Ramsey. Summer Vibrations is a three-week, multi-faceted, performance-based music camp for children who will be entering grades five through eight. The camp includes instrument lessons, electives, ensembles, and weekly master forums. Classes are taught by a variety of professionals, including certified music teachers, post-graduate teachers, and touring professionals who are versed in jazz, rock, and classical music and the integration of music and technology. Rock Band will again be held for students with two years of experience on their instrument. The class is designed to bring together serious musicians who have always wanted to start a band or polish up an existing band into a performance-ready unit with a solid direction. Summer Vibrations will run July 8 through 26 from 9:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., five days per week at Dater School, 35 School Street in Ramsey. Learn about perennials Bill Kolvek will address the Ramsey Area Garden Club on Tuesday, March 12. The meeting will be held at 6:45 p.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 55 Wyckoff Avenue in Ramsey. Kolvek is the owner of his own company, which specializes in perennial plant, and instructs an ornamental grass course at the New York Botanical Gardens. He said that walls had been taken down and new ones constructed to reconfigure the space. “It was a big job, and it’s just about done,” Gurney said last week. According to the chief, the borough’s former communication system was outdated, and had to be brought in line with the Federal Communications Commission’s recent mandate, which requires the use of a specific frequency. Gurney added that, in order to effect the frequency change, the department had to upgrade all of its radios, repeaters, receivers, and antennas. The borough covered the cost of the update, he said. The public is invited to attend the April 6 event, which will include tours of the communication center, a light breakfast, and the dedication to Stegen. Gurney noted that he got his start in the Ramsey Police Department due to Stegen, who recommended Gurney for a position as a civilian dispatcher in 1979.
