Pickleball, which is played on the tennis court with the net lowered to 34”at the center, involves a wood or composite paddle, balls the size of a whiffle ball, and usually four players. Easy for beginners to learn, Pickleball can be developed into a quick, competitive game for those interested in less strenuous tennis playing. Bingo is cancelled during the month of July; and ping pong at Smith School is in recess for the summer. The seniors’ July 17 trip to New York to see the musical “Newsies” will depart from the senior center at 10 a.m. The cost of the trip is $90 and includes bus transportation, lunch at Pigalle’s, and the show. Sign up now at borough hall, 33 North Central Avenue in Ramsey. Anyone interested in joining the trip may call (201) 825-3400 for availability. On Tuesday, Aug. 20, the seniors will take a sightseeing cruise on the River Lady paddlewheel boat in the tranquil waters of the Toms River and Barnegat Bay. The captain will present a historical narration. Following the cruise, there will be a late lunch at the Captain’s Inn in Forked River. Registration will begin at borough hall at 9 a.m. on July 9. The cost for the outing is $67 per person, which includes bus transportation, lunch, and the cruise. Checks should be made payable to Ramsey Seniors. The air-conditioned bus will depart from the senior center in Finch Park at 9 a.m. and will return approximately at 5 p.m. Ramsey will celebrate Independence Day at Finch Park on July 6. The celebration will include food, fireworks, music, a softball game, a cash prize contest, and more.
