The Mahwah Regional Chamber of Commerce’s 22nd Annual Golf Outing and Humanitarian Dinner will be held Monday, Sept. 9 at the Tuxedo Club in Tuxedo, New York. The 2013 Humanitarian of the Year is Laura Lassman, president and founder of Play for Pink P.I.N.K.®, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit raises funds for breast cancer research. “We are just getting started, so there are many ways everyone can get involved: Buy a sponsorship, play golf or tennis, attend the dinner, donate prizes, advertise in our

journal or volunteer,” encourages Golf Outing Vice President Deborah Richin. “This year there are also golf clinics and tennis clinics available for those who want to brush up on their games.” Members and non-members are invited to showcase their businesses, enjoy the daytime activities, and top off a great day with dinner at the main clubhouse. Lassman has chosen Play for P.I.N.K. as the recipient of the charitable portion of the net proceeds from this Chamber event. This grassroots organization raises funds to fight breast cancer by creating and promoting awareness through sporting and lifestyle events including men’s and women’s golf tournaments, tennis, swimming, card games, equestrian events, and shopping benefits. Their commitment is to contribute 100 percent of all funds raised to their beneficiary, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation®. Play for P.I.N.K. has raised almost $30 million for The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, its sole beneficiary, since 1996. Play for P.I.N.K. fully funds 15 research projects supported by the BCRF. In 2001, Lassman received the BCRF Humanitarian Award, presented by Michael Bloomberg, at The Breast Cancer Research Foundation’s Symposium and Annual
Awards Luncheon for her work on behalf of Play for P.I.N.K. Lassman is a member of The Breast Cancer Research Foundation Advisory Board and the Eastpointe Country Club Board of Governors. A graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology, she has worked as a fashion stylist for Grey Advertising and for Simplicity Pattern Co. She also worked for Fashion & Film, a top modeling agency, where she negotiated talent fees and contracts for print ads and television commercials. Lassman lives in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida with her husband Ira. Her daughter Ellen lives in West Palm Beach. Her son Nicholas worked at Cantor Fitzgerald until his untimely death on 9/11. The Lassmans are avid golfers. Founded in 1885, the prestigious Tuxedo Club, located approximately 11 miles north of Mahwah, is a private, member-owned country club. Its facilities include a scenic, 18-hole Robert Trent Jones-designed golf course and clubhouse with private lockers and showers. The signature hole is #17, a 178-yard par-three, requiring a tee shot to an island green. It is a championship course with demanding par-four holes from the back tees, short par-five and challenging parthree holes. The United States Golf Association lists the Tuxedo Club as one of the first 100 clubs in the country.
