June 12, 2013 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • Page 3 Ramsey Two Democrats received enough write-in votes in last week’s primary election to ensure a November contest for the two available seats on the Ramsey Council. Kelly Van Horn received 16 votes and Edward Falato received 19 votes in the Democratic primary. Both appear poised to accept the nominations. Ramsey’s incumbent council members, Vanessa Jachzel and Harry Weber, received 328 ballots and 327 ballots, respectively, in their party’s primary. The two had run unopposed for the GOP nomination. Contacted at his home after the election, Falato acknowledged that he would be running in November. This 28-year Ramsey resident married and has four children. He is a U.S. Navy veteran, who served from 1970-74. He is a memberat-large of the Vietnam Veterans of America and a member of American Legion Post 57 of Waldwick. Now retired, Falato logged over 30 years as a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service. He is a former vice president and trustee of Branch 120 of the National Association of Letter Carriers and is currently director of retirees. Falato has also served as vice president of the Ramsey Band and Guard Association and is a trustee of the Masonicus Run Condominium Association. He has also served as a coach for baseball and softball. Van Horn is a 12-year Ramsey resident. Her father’s family has lived in town for more than 50 years, and her mother’s family, the Donohue’s, has lived in Ramsey for Democratic write-ins to mount fall challenge 45 years. Van Horn is a graduate of Ramsey High School, where she was named to the National Honor Society and was involved in extracurricular activities. She graduated cum laude from the University of New Haven with two bachelor’s degrees, including one in forensic science and one in chemistry. She also received a master’s degree in education from the University of New Haven and has been student teaching to earn her teaching certificate. Van Horn ran for council in 2012, when she and Louis Moore received enough write-in votes to run in the 2012 general election. Jachzel is a life-long Bergen County resident and has lived in Ramsey for nine years. She has three school-aged sons. The councilwoman received a bachelor’s degree in English magna cum laude from Montclair State College and a JD cum laude from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. She has a busy solo law practice dedicated exclusively to representing families of children with learning disabilities. In addition, she serves as Of Counsel to a New York State law firm, where she represents students in special education proceedings. She is also a small business owner of a retail computer service business in Midland Park that employs one fulltime technician and one part-time assistant. Jachzel began her service on the council in 2008. She is the chairwoman of the council’s Finance and Administra- tion Committee. In 2012, she was council president. Weber has been a Ramsey resident for 17 years. He is managing director of trading services and telecommunications at the New York Stock Exchange. His responsibilities include all NYSE trading floor logistics and projects. He manages many large scale projects, divisional budgets, and emergency preparedness plans for the trading operation. Prior to joining the NYSE, he was senior project manager for Comdisco, Inc., where he developed technical and business emergency response and contingency programs for clients in various industries. He earned a bachelor’s degree in computer information systems from Manhattan College and an MBA in finance from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He also earned a graduate certificate in Network and Communications Management and just completed a master’s in project management from DeVry University’s Keller Graduate School of Management. Weber just completed his second year as a councilman. During the month of June, the Ramsey Library’s Art Exhibit will feature work by local seniors. The exhibit will feature oils, acrylics, and prints created by borough Art Exhibit now open at public library residents Rosary Bittman, Lorraine Strangfeld, and Mario Strasolin. The library is located at 30 Wyckoff Avenue.
