June 12, 2013 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • Page 19 Mahwah Minutes Muti to discuss ‘Essays for My Father’ Author and former mayor of Ramsey Richard Muti will discuss his new book, “Essays for My Father: A Legacy of Passion, Politics, and Patriotism in Small-town America” on Sunday, June 30. The program will be held at 2 p.m. at the Mahwah Public Library, 100 Ridge Road in Mahwah. “Essays for my Father” is a collection of essays about Governor Chris Christie and New Jersey politics, the national political scene, unnecessary wars, wrong-headed government, rare displays of political courage, an ItalianAmerican heritage shared by 17 million Americans, public employee unions, and other public policy issues that challenge state and federal government. Muti has published this collection in honor of the 100th Anniversary of his father’s birth. This author has more than 100 publishing credits, most of which relate to public policy, law, politics, and government. He has spent 19 years as a successful trial prosecutor and has taught writing, American government and politics, criminal justice, and history at three New Jersey universities. This is his fourth book. Muti is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Harvard Business School, and Rutgers Law School. He is a former Navy pilot. He serves on the Ramsey Board of Education. Church sets Bargain Bonanza, Bible Camp The Ramapo Reformed Church, located at 100 Island Road in Mahwah, will host its Bargain Bonanza June 14 and 15. This sale will feature a bounty of yard, garage, and vintage treasures for shoppers of all ages. Items for the sale may be donated Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the church office. The church will hold its Vacation Bible School, “God’s Backyard Bible Camp,” July 29 through Aug. 2. The camp is open to children ages three through 12. Activities will take place under tents behind the parsonage. The program is free, but registration is required. The camp will be held at the church from July 1 through Aug. 9. Extended day programs include Lunch Bunch and enrichment. Registration for the 2013-14 school year is now in progress at Holy Cross Lutheran Nursery School. The school offers classes for children ages two-and-a-half to five years of age. Board of health to meet The Mahwah Board of Health will meet at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11. The session will be held in the Mahwah Municipal Building at 475 Corporate Drive. Library hosts Movie Series The Mahwah Pubic Library, located at 100 Ridge Road in Mahwah, presents weekly movies on Thursdays afternoons at 1:30 p.m. These films are free. Popcorn and a drink are provided. No tickets are necessary. Seats will be available on a “first come” basis. “Hemingway and Gellhorn” will be featured June 13. This drama concerns the romance between Ernest Hemingway (Clive Owen) and World War II correspondent Martha Gellhorn (Nicole Kidman). Gellhorn was Hemingway’s inspiration for “Whom the Bell Tolls” and the only woman who ever asked for a divorce from the writer. This 2012 TV movie contains sex, nudity, and disturbing scenes of war. The film is 155 minutes long. On June 20, “The Guilt Trip” (2012) will be shown. Inventor Andy Brewster (Seth Rogen) is about to embark on the road trip of a lifetime, but after a quick stop at the house of his mother (Barbra Streisand), the trip turns into an unexpected mother-son voyage. This film is rated PG-13 and is 95 minutes long. A screening of “Promised Land” (2012) is set for June 27. A natural gas company’s salesman (Matt Damon) experiences life-changing events after arriving in a small town where his corporation wants to tap into the available resources. Register for ice hockey Registration for the Mahwah Ice Hockey Association’s Mite and Squirt 2013-14 fall-winter season is under way. The Mite Team, open to players born in 2005 and later, will participate in eight half-ice practices and play 12 games. The cost is $99 and includes equipment. Squirt players, who were born in 2003 and 2004, play on full ice. This season includes eight practices and 15 games. The cost is $800. Register online at www.mahwahhockey.com. An aging population keeps nurses, doctors, aides, and medical-supply companies in business. There are many different nursing specializations, making nursing an attractive career choice. Software design and development: Keeping today’s digital world running requires a staff of people constantly updating and creating new software. From games to business applications to all of those entertaining apps downloaded each day, software designers pave the way for computer innovation. Salespeople: Sales is one of the oldest and longest-running types of occupations available. Every industry needs quality sales professionals to meet with the public and drive interest in products and services. There are sales positions in just about every industry. Educators: The Millenial generation is just as large as the Baby Boom generation, and children will continue to fill up classrooms across the world. It is estimated three million more teachers are needed by 2015 to fill openings in the United States alone. Also, initiatives to require preK classes could increase the number of education jobs even further. Computer information security: The need to protect personal information from those who want to exploit it continues to grow. Computer information security will continue to increase with the expansion of technological applications.
