The bus will depart from the senior center at 8:45 a.m. and will return at about 5:30 p.m. After the zoo, trip participants will visit Arthur Avenue and enjoy the shops and restaurant on their own. Attendees are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes. The cost is $38. Checks should be made payable to the Ramsey Seniors. Call the borough hall for availability at (201) 825-3400. The seniors have planned an outing to Broadway to see “Newsies” on Wednesday, July 17. Tickets are $90 and include orchestra seating, transportation, and lunch at Pigalle’s on Eighth Avenue. Sign up at the borough hall, 33 North Central Avenue, beginning Wednesday, June 19 at 9 a.m. Checks should be made payable to the Borough of Ramsey. Seniors are invited to Sunday movies at the center. The films begin at 1 p.m. The June schedule includes “We Bought a Zoo,” June 9; “Les Miserables,” June 16; “She’s the One,” June 23; and “Goats,” June 30. Ramsey residents over the age of 60 are invited to join. Chamber announces meeting The Ramsey Chamber of Commerce will meet Tuesday, June 4 at Sublime Salon and Spa, 171 Lake Street in Ramsey. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. Church announces special events The First Presbyterian Church in Ramsey will present On June 9, the First Presbyterian Church in Ramsey’s Bible School will conclude its year with a Sidewalk Art program. On Father’s Day, June 16, the church will celebrate fathers and graduates during the worship service. Summer Sundays will begin June 16. The congregation welcomes children from the nursery class through fifth grade to Awesome Adventures: God’s Amazing Son. This program will be held during the 10 a.m. service from June through August. Register at the church office. On June 30, the members of First Presbyterian Church will join Highlands Presbyterian Church for a joint service at Crestwood Lake in Allendale. The group will visit the New York Botanical Gardens on Thursday, June 27. The garden visit will include a narrated tram tour. Afterward, the group will lunch at Amelia’s Restaurant on Arthur Avenue. There will be time for shopping and sightseeing on Arthur Ave following lunch. Group to discuss ‘Mrs. Astor Regrets’ The Connections Book Group at First Presbyterian Church in Ramsey will discuss Meryl Gordon’s “Mrs. Astor Regrets” on June 19. In 2007, Anthony Marshall was indicted for misuse of his mother Brooke Astor’s fortune, leading to an unheard of scrutiny of America’s discreet aristocracy. The author sifts through the extended Astor family history, from Brooke’s disastrous first marriage at age 17 to her dazzling reinvention in her 50s as the celebrity widow of Vincent Astor firmly ensconced at the helm of the Astor Foundation. Books are available at the Ramsey Library at 30 Wyckoff Avenue. Seniors exhibit at library During the month of June, the Ramsey Library’s Art Exhibit will feature work by local seniors. The exhibit will feature oils, acrylics, and prints created by borough residents Rosary Bittman, Lorraine Strangfeld, and Mario Strasolin. The library is located at 30 Wyckoff Avenue. Braille Bible group seeks volunteers Braille workers are invited to volunteer at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer located at 55 Wyckoff Avenue in Ramsey. The church hosts groups that meet to press and collate Braille Bibles and Christian publications. All finished books are sent free of charge to the blind and visually impaired in more than 120 countries around the globe.
