Breakfast to benefit Mann family On Jan. 27, the Mahwah Fire Department will host a Pancake Breakfast to benefit the Mann Family who lost all their belongings in a fire that destroyed their home on Jan. 2. The breakfast will be held from 8 a.m. to noon at the Mahwah Elks located at 1 Foxwood Lane in Mahwah. Tickets will be sold at the door. Prices are $10 for adults, and $8 for seniors and children (ages four through 12). Children age three and younger will be admitted free. For more information, e-mail whopper961@aol.com. Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper set The Ramapo Reformed Church, located at 100 Island Road in Mahwah, will hold its Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper on Feb. 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. The cost to attend is $6 for adults, and $3 for children age five and under. Foundation hosts Trustee Dinner The Mahwah Schools Foundation will host its annual Trustee Dinner on Thursday, Feb. 7 from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Crossroads in Mahwah. The event will feature cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, followed by dinner, dancing, and prizes. This event is a celebration of the commitment by the community to ensure Mahwah children remain on the cutting edge of education, and is one of the
foundation’s main fundraisers. Tickets are $95 per person. Table sponsorships are available and include 10 tickets. Tickets for the prize basket contests may be purchased in advance. Concert Series to feature ‘The Kootz’ The Kootz will perform classic rock and roll of the 1960s and 1970s at the Mahwah Public Library on Jan. 27. The band will present selections from the Beatles, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Steve Winwood, Bob Dylan, the Byrds, Rolling Stones, and Creedance Clearwater Revival. Group to discuss ‘Meeting Jesus in the Gospels’ At 5 p.m. on Jan. 27, the Not by Bread Alone Spiritual Book Discussion Group will discuss George Martin’s “Meeting Jesus in the Gospels” at Panera Bread, 1300 State Route 17 in Ramsey. In the context of short, lively reflections, Martin explores scripture to reveal how Jesus demonstrates his mercy, comfort, strength, and forgiveness, revealing that Jesus was more than simply a kindly man wandering around the hills of Galilee. Learn to make healthy food choices The Mahwah Public Library will offer a program for adults on making healthier food choices for a longer and happier life on Wednesday, Jan. 30. This program, which begins at 7 p.m., will be presented by the Robin DeCicco Institute for Integrative Nutrition. Participants will learn some simple tips about how to make better choices at the supermarket and how to prepare easy and nutritious meals. Tickets for this program are not necessary; seating is available on a “first come” basis. The library is located at 100 Ridge Road. Call (201) 529-READ. Bling & Beyond Bazaar Night announced On Monday, Feb. 4 local vendors, businesses, and crafters will display their merchandise at Bling & Beyond Bazaar Night. This special event will be held at Ramapo Ridge Middle School at 150 Ridge Road in Mahwah. The bazaar will feature jewelry, candles, gourmet items, accessories, cosmetics, and more. Free clothing available The Clothing Closet Ministry at the Ramapo Reformed Church has free seasonal clothing available for infants, children, and adults. Items include a variety of sweaters, coats, jackets, shirts, jeans, dresses, sneakers, shoes, and more. For a referral, call the Mahwah Township Department of Human Services at (201) 529-5757. Mahwah residency is not required. An appointment will be made with the volunteers of the Clothing Closet. The shop is located at the rear of the education building at the corner of Island Road and West Ramapo Road in Mahwah. Donations are accepted Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to noon.
