Club to visit Tulip Festival The Leisure Club is offering a three-day trip to the Albany Tulip Festival, May 9 through 11. The excursion will include two nights lodging, two breakfasts, two dinners, a guided tour of Albany, the crowning of the Tulip Queen, the Tulip Festival at Washington Park with musical performers, and over 100,000 tulip blossoms. Ramsey residents over the age of 55 are invited to join the Leisure Club, which meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 55 Wyckoff Avenue, at 11 a.m. Club President Diane Beggio attends meetings at the Bergen County Senior Citizen Council in Paramus to bring back information that will be of interest to residents of Ramsey. UNICO hosts ‘That’s Amore Casino Night’ Greater Ramsey UNICO will present its Second Annual “That’s Amore Casino Night” on March 8. The fundraiser will be held at 7 p.m. at the Sheraton Crossroads in Mahwah. Tickets are $75 and include $25 in chips, Texas Hold ‘em and blackjack tournaments, a cash prize, a prize basket fundraiser, an auction, appetizers, dinner, dessert, and beverages. Tickets purchased by Feb. 15 will include an extra $50 in chips. Proceeds will be donated to Ramsey’s emergency services, including the ambulance, rescue and fire squads, and to the Greater Ramsey UNICO’s scholarships and outreach programs. Seniors announce events The Ramsey Seniors will hold the first luncheon of the year in the senior center in Finch Park on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 11:30 p.m. Please note the new time. Celebrate the Year of the Snake and enjoy a Chinese feast catered by Ya Xing Chinese Restaurant of Ramsey. The event will feature a special performance by the Ramsey Senior Center Tai Chi group. The cost to attend is $8. Sign up is under way at borough hall, 33 North Central Avenue. Space is limited. On Feb. 20, the seniors will travel by bus to the Hunterdon Hills Playhouse to see “Butterflies are Free.” This comedy features a bachelor, Don, who moves into his own apartment for the first time. Though it is just a cramped cold-water flat, the freedom is exhilarating. The fun begins when the pretty, kooky woman next door meets Don’s overprotective mother. Tickets are $69 and include transportation, the show, and dinner. Sign up at borough hall. Checks should be made payable to the Ramsey Seniors. The center’s art class will hold an exhibit at the Ramsey Public Library, 55 Wyckoff Avenue, during the month of February. The art class meets at the center every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon and welcomes Ramsey seniors. Seniors are invited to the Movie Series, which is held on Sundays. Films start at 1 p.m., and refreshments are served. The feature presentation for Jan. 27 will be “The Lucky One.” For a complete list of activities, stop in at center located at Finch Park for a monthly calendar, or call borough hall at (201) 825-3400 for a mailing. ‘Charlie Brown’ coming to Ramsey The Per4ming heARTS Theater Company will present “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” on Jan. 25 and 26 at 8 p.m. and on Jan. 27 at 3 p.m. The shows will be presented at the First Presbyterian Church of Ramsey located at 15 Shuart Lane. This production, which is being directed by Ramsey resident Danielle Van Kampen, is a benefit for Hearts & Crafts Grief Counseling. The show is based on the comic strip “Peanuts” by Charles M. Schultz. The book, music, and lyrics are by Clark Gesner. Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for students, and $15 for children under 12. Pet licenses may be renewed in the borough clerk’s office weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. In addition, the office will remain open until 7:30 p.m. on Monday nights through February. License fees are outlined on the renewal notice that was mailed to pet owners. Renewals may also be completed by mail with proof of updated rabies inoculation and a self-addressed stamped envelope.
