Page 6 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • January 9, 2013 Ramsey Don Bosco Prep’s Chapel Concerts is holding its third Young Artists’ Scholarship Competition to celebrate, recognize, and reward the talent, commitment, and discipline of young performers. This competition offers high school musicians an opportunity to perform during the 2012-13 Season of Don Bosco Prep’s Chapel Concerts. The first place winner will also receive a $1,000 in scholarship money to be used toward music education. The Young Artists’ Scholarship Competition is open to United Stated citizens and legal non-citizens who are fulltime high school students, reside in New Jersey, and show proficiency in vocal or instrumental music. Solo artists and ensembles performing in all styles of music will be considered. Interested participants are asked to submit an application with a preliminary audition DVD by Jan. 31. Twentyfive finalists will be selected to audition live and will be notified by mail by Feb. 28. Final auditions will be held March 9 between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Applicants will be asked to perform the same repertoire submitted for the preliminary round. Applicants will be judged by a panel of experts on talent, technique, musicianship, skill, interpretation, presentation, and presence. Competitors compete against a standard of excellence, rather than against each other. Performers should bring their own accompanist. The school is located at 492 North Franklin Turnpike in Ramsey. On Dec. 2, Patrolman Mike Parise conducted a motor vehicle stop on a speeding vehicle on Route 17 South. At the conclusion of the stop, an 18-year-old Allendale resident was arrested for a traffic warrant. Patrolman Jeff Guilfoyle was dispatched to a motor vehicle crash on Airmount Avenue on Dec. 6. At the conclusion of the investigation, a Mahwah resident, 52, was arrested for driving while intoxicated. On Dec. 7, Sergeant Vasili Pieratos was dispatched to an Interstate Shopping Center business for a shoplifter in custody. At the conclusion of the investigation, a Middletown man, 20, was arrested for shoplifting. Detective Adam Szelag conducted a motor vehicle stop on Route 17 South on Dec. 13. At the conclusion of the investigation, a 51-year-old Tuxedo, New York man was arrested for an outstanding warrant. The same day, Detective Szelag was dispatched to a Ramsey Square business for a shoplifter in custody. At Ramsey police department reports on December incidents in borough the conclusion of the investigation, a 48-year-old Mahwah woman was arrested for shoplifting. On Dec. 19, Patrolman Mike Parise conducted an investigation based on an incident that took place between two drivers on Franklin Turnpike. At the conclusion of the investigation, a Waldwick man, 38, was arrested for impersonating a police officer. On Dec. 21, Sergeant Richard Falotico charged a Ramsey man with weapons charges resulting in a temporary restraining order service and weapon seizure. Sgt. Falotico received a phone call from the Fair Lawn police regarding the service of a temporary restraining order that included weapons seizure. After the weapons were seized, it was determined that two of the weapons were illegal assault weapons along with high-capacity magazines. The borough man was charged with two counts of possessing an assault weapon without a permit, and one count of possessing high-capacity magazines.
