February 27, 2013 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • Page 3 Ramsey The New Jersey Law Enforcement Commission has unanimously approved the reaccreditation of the Ramsey Police Department. The decision was made Feb. 14 following a review of the on-site assessment that occurred in December 2012. Chief Bryan Gurney and Accreditation Manager Sergeant Kevin T. Kelly testified before the commission. Chief Gurney indicated that the reaccreditation process had been difficult. “Our accreditation manager, Captain Raymond Bailey, was severely injured during Hurricane Sandy, right in the middle of our reaccreditation,” Gurney explained. “Fortunately, Sgt. Kelly and the rest of the department picked up the ball and ran with it. I am Police department earns reaccreditation very proud of this accomplishment. “Reaccreditation to me was more difficult than the initial accreditation. At the initial accreditation, policies are put in place. These are the best practices in law enforcement. At the reaccreditation, the department must have proofs that it is following these practices. Fortunately, the members of the Ramsey Police Department have bought into the accreditation philosophy. This makes reaccreditation much easier.” Ramsey Mayor Christopher Botta said, “We are proud of our department for their reaccreditation. It confirms the professionalism and dedication of all of our police employees and the leadership of our chief, Bryan Gurney.” (continued on page 21) Hats for hope Fourth graders Charlotte Soll, Tyler Hornide, and Jack Schneider joined Ramsey’s Dater School in supporting Andrea’s Garden, an orphanage in Bolivia, by donating $1 to wear a hat to school.
