Eye Level is based on an educational principle where students learn at their own pace. When an instructor understands the learning needs of a student, the teaching is most effective. Eye Level’s program is sequential in nature, building constantly on previous subject matter and allowing every child to master one level of the curriculum before progressing to the next. InstrucOwner/Director Jim Lockard tors provide continuous guidance, allowing students to set attainable goals and learn at a comfortable, individualized pace. Instructors help students learn new concepts and guide them to work through problems themselves. Children attend Eye Level one hour each week per subject and work with an instructor in small groups. Students then receive about 15 minutes worth of homework per night. “We like to think of it like exercise for the brain: You need to do a little each day to gain the full benefit,” Lockard says. At Eye Level, it is important that children have fun. “If they’re not having fun, they’re not learning,” Lockard asserts. The program offers a unique Critical Thinking Math component which allows students to develop depth perception, problem solving, and reasoning skills. Eye Level’s goal is to nurture lifelong learners, critical thinkers, and problem solvers who have the tools to succeed at every level of formal education and beyond. The technology was developed by NASA to check for metal fatigue on the Space Shuttle and provides information to determine specifically which vertebrae to adjust. Dr. Evangel was featured demonstrating the Pro-Adjuster on many television news programs including Fox TV’s “Good Day NY” since he began working with the instrument in 200l. He now has the “grandson” of the Pro-Adjuster, The Ultralign G2, which brings computerized chiropractic a quantum leap past its predecessor. The doctor uses Spinal Rejuvenative Therapy, a form of spinal Dr. Evangel decompression that can reduce disc herniations. He also advocates appropriate exercise and nutrition. Cold laser therapy is also part of treatment. Dr. Evangel explains that red and infrared light accelerate healing by improving mitochondrial function. His newest therapy is the ZenPro 5900, which is whole body vibration therapy that improves bone density, tones muscles, releases endorphins, improves balance and coordination, enhances blood flow and oxygenation, and lowers the stress hormone cortisol. Dr. Evangel’s credentials include being a police defensive tactics instructor and holding a 7th degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do. He received a BA in biology, teaching certification in the sciences, and an MA in environmental studies from Montclair State University. G Meet your sales representative: Joan Wilkinson yckoff resident Joan Wilkinson joined the staff of the Villadom TIMES in 2004, selling advertising space for businesses based in the Township of Mahwah. The following year, she took on sales for Ramsey. “I like talking to people, and I had always considered going into sales,” she explains. One afternoon, while reading Villadom TIMES, her hometown newspaper, Joan spotted the ad for an advertising sales representative that led to her new career. “I enjoy having the opportunity to develop relationships with my customers,” Joan says, adding that some Joan Wilkinson clients have become friends. Before becoming involved at the newspaper, Joan lived in South Carolina, where she taught first grade. When she returned to the tri-state area, she worked as a training consultant for New York Life’s corporate headquarters on Madison Avenue. There, she offered instruction on all in-house programs, including training for new supervisors, tips on how to conduct a performance evaluation, time management, stress management, career development, and managing personal growth. She also traveled the country to present information on a corporate health benefits package. Today, Joan remains involved in training as she provides the Blood-borne Pathogen instruction for the Bergen County Department of Health Services. She regularly presents programs for emergency medical technicians, and police and fire personnel. Joan and her husband, Bob, are the parents of two daughters, Lauren, a secondyear college student and Tracy, who is attending high school. She and her family enjoy traveling, and have visited Hawaii, Bermuda, and several other islands, where Joan enjoys swimming and relaxing on the beach. In her free time at home, Joan enjoys trying new recipes and baking desserts for family and friends. During the warmer weather, Joan can often be seen riding by the office on her moped. Contact Joan at the main office at (201) 652-0744 or e-mail her at joan@villadom.com. W
