February 13, 2013 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • Page 23 Ramsey Review Filing deadline for school board candidates nears Candidates for the Ramsey Board of Education are reminded the deadline for filing to have their name on the ballot for the annual school board election is 4 p.m. on Feb. 25, 2013. The election is set for April 16. For more details call the board office at (201) 785-2300. Prospective school board candidates can obtain a School Board Candidate Kit or online a www.njsba. org/candidacy. The kit includes a sample nominating petition, information about the legal qualifications for school board candidacy, and the role of the school board member. Information about the New Jersey Ethics Act and important dates in the school election process are also included. While on patrol on Feb. 5, Detective Brian Huth observed a 2008 Chevrolet four-door sedan with a California registration, parked at the Maple Shade Motel Route 17 South in Ramsey. A check of license produced information that the registered owner was wanted out of San Jose, California for attempted murder and illegal weapons possession. After an investigation, it was determined that the registered owner of the vehicle was staying in room number 2 at the Maple Shade Motel. A photograph and copy of the warrant were forwarded to the Ramsey Police Department. Detective Police apprehend wanted man Huth confirmed that wanted person was the same person staying in room number 2. Positive identification was made during surveillance. On Feb. 6, members of the Ramsey Police Department and the U.S. Marshal Service conducted surveillance at the Maple Shade Motel. At approximately 12:30 p.m., Pinto exited his hotel room and drove out of the parking lot. Pinto’s car was stopped by the Ramsey Police Department and the U.S. Marshal Service and was arrested without incident. Pinto was transported to the Bergen County Jail, pending extradition to San Jose California. Seniors announce events The Ramsey Seniors will host a bus trip to New York City to see “Nice Work if You Can Get It” on Wednesday, March 20. This award-winning show bursts with glamour and glorious songs by Ira Gershwin. It’s the Roaring Twenties, and the cast of outrageous characters gathers in New York to celebrate the wedding of a wealthy playboy. But, things don’t go as planned when the playboy meets a feisty bootlegger who melts his heart. The champagne flows and the gin fizzes in this hilarious musical starring two-time Tony Award winner Matthew Broderick and three-time Tony Award nominee Kelli O’Hara. The cost is $100 per person, which includes transportation, lunch at Broadway Joe’s, and orchestra seats. Sign up for the trip beginning Feb. 19 at 10 a.m. at borough hall, 33 North Central Avenue. Checks should be made payable to Borough of Ramsey. This trip is open to Ramsey residents over age 60 with proof of residency. The senior art class is exhibiting its work at the Ramsey Library, 30 Wyckoff Avenue, during the month of February. The art group meets on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. in the center located at Finch Park. The group welcomes anyone interested in learning watercolor or pencil drawing techniques. Winter activities are in full swing. The morning walkers meet Monday through Friday at 8 a.m. at Varka Restaurant or Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the Interstate Shopping Center entrance to the bike path for late morning walkers. Church announces services The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, located at 55 Wyckoff Avenue in Ramsey, will hold Ash Wednesday services with Holy Communion at noon and 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13. Garden Club learns about herbs Patricia Libutti will address the Ramsey Area Garden Club on Tuesday, Feb. 12. The meeting will be held at 6:45 p.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer at 55 Wyckoff Avenue. A Master Gardener, Libutti specializes in herb history, growth, and use. Her discussion will include information about growing herbs and cooking with these flavorful plants.
