Free tax preparation available AARP’s Tax Aide will provide free tax assistance at the Mahwah Senior Center, 475 Corporate Drive in Mahwah, every Monday and Friday from Feb. 8 through April 12. The tax aide program is for seniors and others with low to moderate income. Participants will receive assistance with their federal and state tax returns. Register for spring hockey Registration for the Mahwah Ice Hockey Association’s spring season is under way. The program is open to residents age five through 18. Remembering Sinatra Donnie Farraro will present “To Be Perfectly Frank,” a musical show centered on the life of Frank Sinatra, at the Mahwah Seniors’ luncheon on Thursday, Feb. 21. This noon program will be held at the Senior Center located at 475 Corporate Drive. Farraro’s program covers the musician’s life from his birth on Dec.12, 1915 in Hoboken to his death on May 14, 1998 in Los Angeles, California. The program is open to Mahwah seniors only. Seniors are invited to participate in bridge, mahjong, line dancing, exercise classes, billiards, woodcarving, and a writing workshop. Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper set The Ramapo Reformed Church, located at 100 Island Road in Mahwah, will hold its Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper on Feb. 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. The cost to attend is $6 for adults, and $3 for children age five and under. Board of health to meet The Mahwah Board of Health will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 7:30 p.m. The session will be held in the municipal building located at 475 Corporate Drive. Celebrate Valentine’s Day at the library The Mahwah Public Library will celebrate the season of love with two Valentine’s Day programs for adults. On Feb. 9, vocalist Laura Hull will perform some of the greatest love songs at the 2 p.m. “Love Is in the Air” program. Hull’s distinctive vocal interpretations create a signature sound of music drawn from an extensive repertoire of American jazz and popular songs, including selections from Frank Loesser, Irving Berlin, and Cole Porter. Since 2006, she has recorded and produced three CDs, won several songwriting awards, and performed at a variety of venues across the country. A.R. Gurney’s “Love Letters” will be presented on Sunday, Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. Spanning 50 years, this play features the correspondence of Melissa Gardner and Andrew Makepeace Ladd from childhood to middle age, as they reveal themselves, their goals, and dreams. The program is performed by M&M Production Acting Company and Village Stage. Both programs are free of charge and will be held at the library at 100 Ridge Road. Foundation hosts Trustee Dinner The Mahwah Schools Foundation will host its annual Trustee Dinner on Thursday, Feb. 7 from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Crossroads in Mahwah. The event will feature cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, followed by dinner, dancing, and prizes. This event is a celebration of the commitment by the community to ensure Mahwah children remain on the cutting edge of education, and is one of the foundation’s main fundraisers. Tickets are $95 per person. Table sponsorships are avail-
able and include 10 tickets. Tickets for the prize basket contests may be purchased in advance. Museum revisits the Cold War “The Cold War Comes to Mahwah: Nuclear Warheads in our Backyard” is open at the Mahwah Museum located at 201 Franklin Turnpike in Mahwah. The Mahwah Museum display tells the story of the Nike Base in Mahwah, which opened in 1955. This multimedia exhibit covers how the base fit into the larger defense system of New York and the United States, how it was operated, and what would have happened if it had ever been used. This exhibit will continue through June 2013. The Mahwah Museum is open on Wednesdays and weekends from 1 to 5 p.m. Admission is $5; members and children under 12 are admitted free. Chamber membership is not required. Business After Hours will be held Feb. 13. This event is being sponsored by Infoaxis and will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the company’s headquarters, 300 B Route 17 South in Mahwah. The cost is $15 for Chamber members and $30 for non-members. Advance registration is preferred; an additional $5 processing fee will be charged if paid the day of the event. Refreshments will be served. On Feb. 28, the Chamber will host a Free Breakfast Meet & Greet sponsored by Sharp Electronics Corporation. The event will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at One Sharp Plaza in Mahwah. Chamber members and new attendees are encouraged to bring their promotional materials and literature to display on the event’s information table.
