Miriam Pohlmeyer of Pompton Plains, formerly of Wyckoff and Mahwah, died Jan. 30. She was 93. She was a teacher at Saint Elizabeth’s School in Wyckoff for many years. She was the first CCD director at the Church of the Nativity in Midland Park. She is survived by her children Trish and son-in-law Mark Wechter, Donald, and Phillip, her son-in-law Gerry Tansey of Midland Park, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her sister Virginia McIntyre. Elaine Stinavage Smith, nee Hatch, of Palm Coast, Florida, formerly of Ramsey, died Jan. 22. She graduated from Ramsey High School in 1941, and worked for the Federal Reserve Bank in New York until her marriage to Edwin Smith on February 4, 1945. She was active in the VFW Auxiliary 8867 in Bricktown until the death of her husband Edwin in 1975. In 1982, she married Edmund Stinavage. Jean P. Stewart of Lakewood, formerly of Ramsey, died Jan. 29. She was 85. She graduated from Sewanhaka High School in Floral Park, New York. She was a member of Saint Paul’s R.C. Church in Ramsey, where she was a member of the Rosary Altar Society. She worked as a sales and floor manager at Lord and Taylor in Paramus. She is survived by her husband James J. John Veleber of Roscoe, New York, formerly of Ridgewood and Weeke Watchi, Florida, died Jan. 28. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Farleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck. Before retiring in 1993, he was employed with Pilgrim Bank in Cedar Grove. His career in the banking industry spanned 40 years. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ridgewood. He is survived by his wife Hilda S. She earned an associate degree to serve as a home health aide. She is survived by her daughters Peggy Mask and Ann Bellavigna, three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband Dominick. He was a 55-year member of the F&AM Lodge # 35 in Secaucus. He is survived by his sons Harry Leathem of Saint Petersburg, Florida and Thomas J.R. Leathem of Wyckoff and his step-daughters Claudia, Marta, and Norma. He is also survived by two grandsons, and his siblings Robert Leathem and Elizabeth Van Bemmel. Edward W. Neumann Jr. of Preswick Glen in New Hartford, New York, formerly of Glen Rock, died Jan. 24. He was 81. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He graduated with a degree in metallurgical engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1952. He earned an MBA from the Wharton School of Business. He was a financial analyst for AT&T in Chicago and New York City, and later worked as a real estate agent in Glen Rock. He volunteered as the treasurer of Meals on Wheels, quartermaster for the VFW Post 850 in Glen Rock, and with the resident’s board at Preswick Glen. He is survived by his sons William of Denville, Thomas of Clinton, New York, James of Lexington, Massachusetts, and Robert of Glen Rock, and six grandchildren.
