August 21, 2013 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • Page 3 Mahwah Township pleased to have administrator back by Frank J. McMahon Mahwah Mayor William Laforet and all the members of the township council have voiced their satisfaction with Mahwah Township Administrator Brian Campion’s deci- sion to rescind his resignation and remain with the town- ship. Campion has handled the business affairs of the town- ship for 12 years and served as Mahwah’s township attor- ney and planning board attorney for many years prior to becoming the township’s administrator in 2001. On July 1, he tendered his resignation, which was to have become effective on Sept. 30. He rescinded that resignation on Aug. 1, and his deci- sion to stay was announced by the members of the town- ship council at a public meeting on Aug. 8. “I was excited to receive a phone call that (Brian Cam- pion) is staying with us,” Councilwoman Lisa DiGiulio said during her report to the council. “Thank you, Brian, for reconsidering.” Councilmen Charles Jandris and Roy Larson added their comments, saying they were also pleased Campion is staying. Councilman John Roth said, “I’m delighted Brian has decided to stay with us. He is an asset to the town. Thank you for reconsidering.” Councilman Steven Sbarra said he was also happy that Campion was staying in his position and he looked forward to working with him. Council President Harry Williams said, “Brian Cam- pion, welcome back. I’m very happy to have you continue with us. Thank you.” Mayor Laforet added his comments, telling the govern- ing body and the public, “I’m thankful that Brian Campion is staying.” Campion did not comment or offer any explanation about his decision to rescind his resignation, just as he gave no specific reason for his resignation when he submitted it other than to say he was not retiring and that he just felt it was the right time to look for other opportunities. In his Aug. 1 notice to the council, however, Campion did state that there are a number of current and future proj- ects that are important to the township and he believes he can continue to contribute to the improvement of the town- ship. Laforet emphasized that Campion did not comment on his decision because he did not want it to become a “big political thing.” “We spent a lot of time talking about it at length,” Laforet said. “Basically, I asked him to reconsider and he realizes there is a lot of work to be done and we’re going to do it together.” After Campion tendered his resignation, his position was posted on the New Jersey League of Municipalities website seeking resumes to be submitted no later than July 30. Laforet said the township received 35 resumes, but they were not reviewed because he was pursuing his discussion with Campion about staying with the township. “My first obligation was to keep Brian,” Laforet said. “That’s what anyone in my position would do and we suc- ceeded and we’re thrilled that he has decided to stay. So it will be business as usual, and it is all good business.” Gordon to present class for seniors The Mahwah Senior Center, located at 475 Corporate Drive in Mahwah, will host Heather Gordon at a special fitness class set for Friday, Aug. 23 at 10 a.m. Gordon, a former dancer with “Lord of the Dance” and choreography specialist for Zumba® Fitness, will present a class for the township’s seniors.
