This project is funded, in part, by the Passaic County Cultural and Heritage Council at Passaic County Community College, through a grant from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Depart- ment of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts. The New Jersey Botanical Garden is open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and admission to the Garden is always free. There is a $5-per-car parking charge on summer holidays and weekends (Satur- days and Sundays) from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day; weekday parking is free all year. In 1966, the State of New Jersey pur- chased the 1,117 acres of Skylands, a former country estate and the state’s first acquisition under the Green Acres preser- vation program. Governor Thomas Kean designated the central 96 acres surround- ing the manor house as the state’s official botanical garden in 1984. Since 1976, NJBG/Skylands Associa- tion, an incorporated, member-supported non-profit organization, has worked with the state to preserve and protect Skylands and its historic structures. NJBG spon- sors programs, tours, concerts, and public events at the garden throughout the year. NJBG/Skylands Association receives no funding from the State of New Jersey or from on-site operators. Donations and sponsorships are always appreciated. Call (973) 962-9534 or visit njbg.org for more information on NJBG, how to become a member, volunteer opportuni- ties, events, or directions.
