New Winter’s Park Playground closer to reality
by Frank J. McMahon Donations by corporate and business sponsors are bringing the dream of “Building a New Playground for a New Generation” at Winter’s Pond on East Ramapo Avenue in Mahwah closer to reality. At a recent meeting with Mayor William Laforet and Kim Boland, chair of a committee of seven “Mahwah Moms” who volunteered to raise the funds necessary to build a new playground on the Winter’s Park property, Larry Inserra, the owner of Inserra Supermarkets, became the first platinum sponsor. Inserra donated $15,000 to the playground project. Boland also announced that, in March, Liberty Hyundai Subaru became the first silver sponsor, donating $1,000 to the project; and Mahwah Deli, Bergen-Highlands Rotary Club, and the Mahwah Bar & Grill have become supporting sponsors. “We are so thankful to our corporate sponsors and business and resident supporters,” Boland said. “We cannot succeed without everyone coming together the way we know Mahwah always does.” Boland is also seeking the community’s support for the committee’s Spring Swing Event at the Apple Ridge Country Club on April 26. Tickets are now available online. Members of the public are invited to reserve a seat to celebrate Mahwah’s historic Winter’s Park. The fundraising event will start at 7 p.m. and will include dinner, open bar, dancing, auctions, and prizes that include autographed footballs from NFL legends Phil Simms and Boomer Esiason, a photography session and package from
Noelle Soroka Photography, a six-month gym membership to Retro Fitness, exclusive and rare movie items from “Skyfall” and “Pirates of the Caribbean,” a $100 gift card to the Chiro Health Spa, an Oprah Magazine Bag filled with goodies, an iPod shuffle, and iTunes gift cards. (continued on page 19)
