Ramsey
During Public Health Week, Jim Rogers and C.B. Young were recognized and honored by the Bergen County Health Officers Society and the Bergen County Department of Health Services for their service on the Ramsey Board of Health. Young has served for 26 years, and Rogers has served for 47 years – the longest of any board of health member in Bergen County. Rogers has been a Ramsey resident since 1952. He is a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. An organic chemist by profession, he received his bachelor’s degree from Saint John’s and a master’s from Stevens Institute of Technology. He was appointed to the Ramsey Board of Health in 1967 and has been the board’s president since 1987. He is known for the spirit he brings to the board meetings each month. Young moved to Ramsey in 1967. He graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in electronic engineering. He later obtained a master’s in engineering and a master’s in computer science. He joined the Ramsey Ambulance Corps in 1973 and is still a certified EMT, keeping up with all the mandatory training. He was appointed to the Ramsey Board of Health in 1987, and is currently the vice president. He keeps all the members abreast of the latest public health news, and is the “go to” person for balancing the health department budget. The Ramsey Board of Health sponsors several flu clinics each year and offers free rabies vaccines for canines and feline every January. The board’s programs also include the Healthy Bones classes and walking groups. “Under Jim and C.B.’s leadership, valuable programs such as these have had positive effects on the health needs of the town’s residents, young and old,” said Joe Verdone, the Ramsey Council’s liaison to the Ramsey Board of Health. “Their foresight and genuine interest in the public’s health needs and the awareness they provide are greatly appreciated.”
