Book groups plan discussions The First Presbyterian Church of Ramsey’s Connections Book Group will discuss Amor Towles’ “Rules of Civility” on Wednesday, April 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the Metzger Room. In 1938, Katey Kontent embarks on a journey from a Wall Street secretarial pool through the upper echelons of New York society in search of a future. On April 24, the Literary Ladies will meet to discuss Madeleine Albright’s “Prague Winter: A Personal Story of Remembrance and War, 1937-1948.” The former U.S. secretary of state brings her own family history in her native Czechoslovakia to World War II-era history. Church hosts bereavement support group Saint Paul Roman Catholic Church in Ramsey will host an eight-week Bereavement Support Group beginning April 17. The group will meet on Wednesdays from 7:30 to 9 p.m. through June 5. The program is open to those who have lost a loved one, family member, or close friend. Club announces Annual Plant Sale The Ramsey Area Garden Club will hold its Annual Plant Sale on Saturday, May 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Old Ramsey Train Station off Main Street. A large variety of annuals and perennials from members and professional growers will be for sale. Hanging baskets, houseplants, and special Mothers Day gift baskets will also be available. Group seeks jewelry and book donations The Friends of Ramsey Library is accepting donations of jewelry and books for the group’s Book & Jewelry Sale. Jewelry donations will be accepted through April 18. Donations of books will be accepted April 22 through 25,
during regular library hours. Please note that VHS tapes, encyclopedias, and textbooks cannot be accepted. The Book & Jewelry Sale will be held April 26 through 28. A preview sale for “Friends” members will be held April 26 from 7 to 9 p.m. New members are always welcome; membership forms are available at the circulation desk. The sale will be open to the public on Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, April 28 from noon to 3 p.m. Anyone who would like to volunteer to help with the sale may inquire at the library at 30 Wyckoff Avenue. Ramsey Cleanup Day set The Ramsey Environmental Commission, with the support of the Ramsey Council, Ramsey Rescue, and the Bergen County Department of Health Services, Clean Communities Program, will host its annual cleanup on Saturday, April 20. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p. m. (Rain date: April 21.) Individuals, families, and groups are welcome to join in this civic service. Participants will meet at the Ramsey Rescue garage on Prospect Street to sign up. Work gloves, T-shirts, and supplies will be provided. Juniors seek donations for tag sale The Junior Woman’s Club of Ramsey is currently seeking donations for its Second Annual Tag Sale & Bake Sale, which will be held May 11. All proceeds from this event will be donated to Ramsey’s civic organizations. The club is seeking donations of children’s toys, clothing, household items, small appliances, and more. Library hosts programs On April 19, Ramsey teens are invited to Friday Frenzy. From 3:15 to 4:45 p.m., students in grades six and up are welcome at the library for snacks, crafts, Nintendo Wii, Playstation, games, door prizes, and fun with Ms. Ellen and Ms. Maggie. Attendees may drop in; no sign up is necessary. Discover “The Joys of Hiking All Year Round” on Wednesday, April 17 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Adirondack Mountain Club leaders Peter Reiner and Suzan Gordon will share their hiking tips. Reiner and Gordon will present a slide show of local mountain peaks, offer suggestions on what to bring hiking in any season, and discuss how to use

Quilters sought for church mission The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, located at 55 Wyckoff Avenue in Ramsey, hosts quilters’ meetings at 10 a.m. on the first and third Mondays of the month. The group prepares quilts to be sent to Lutheran World Relief for global distribution. Novice and experienced quilters are welcome. The group is seeking donations of gently-used sheets, thin blankets, and quilt batting. New walking group forming A new walking group, Ramsey Walks at 5 p.m., has been created to accommodate residents who prefer late afternoon exercise or find it difficult to attend a morning walk. This new group meets in the Smith School parking lot at 2 Monroe Street at 5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The walks are approximately 45 minutes and follow local, low-traffic streets on the west side of Ramsey. Participants of all ages and walking speeds are welcome. Registration is not necessary. The board of health also hosts two morning groups: Ramsey Walks at 8 a.m., which meets in Varka’s parking lot; and Ramsey Walks at 9:30 a.m., which meets at the Interstate Shopping Center entrance to the bike path.
