Hearts & Crafts Grief Counseling, a nonprofit in Ramsey, will host its 16th annual Camp Grief Busters, a camp for bereaved children and their families, on June 8 and 9. The camp is held one weekend a year at the Stony Point Retreat Center in Stony Point, New York. Camp Grief Busters is a unique camping experience that uses creative hands-on activities combined with recreational fun to assist bereaved children and their families. All campers participate in a candlelight vigil as a reminder that their loved ones will always be remembered. The community is invited to sponsor a child or family to attend camp or receive counseling at a drastically reduced fee by donating on the center’s website at www. heartsandcraftscounseling.org, or mailing a check to 60 East Main Street, Ramsey, NJ 07446. If you or someone you know would like to speak directly to a counselor, call (201) 818-9399. Hearts & Crafts Grief Counseling was founded in 1994 by Director/Board Certified Art Therapist Laura Hudson. Licensed Social Worker Samantha Tinter and Licensed Clinical Social Worker Terry DeBrule work with Hudson to help families living with serious illness and loss.

Together, they are dedicated to providing a safe, caring environment as families work through the healing process. Situated in a cozy carriage house to create a home away from home, the counseling center has an art room, family room, and loft to replace the conventional psychotherapy office. Clients, who can range in age from four to 99, receive individual counseling and support groups. Coming from 80 communities in New Jersey and New York, most clients are referred by schools, medical practices, and other Hearts & Crafts families. Over the past 18 years, Hearts & Crafts Grief Counseling has grown from serving 20 families to working with approximately 250 children and adults each year. Services provided include art therapy, individual and family counseling, children’s support groups, teen support groups, parent/adult support groups, and community education. Reduced fees are available for qualifying clients. Funding is secured through charitable donations and modestly priced counseling fees.
