Hosted by the High School Graduation Gala Fundraising Committee, this event will begin at 7 p.m.; the doors will open at 6 p.m. The Harlem Wizards travel throughout the country, performing a magical display of basketball tricks, coordinated ball handling, fancy passing, and aerodynamic athleticism with high-energy comedy and audience interaction. Board of health to meet The Mahwah Board of Health will meet on Tuesday, April 9 in the municipal building located at 475 Corporate Drive. The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. Sunday music concert series continues The Mahwah Public Library, located at 100 Ridge Road, hosts free concerts on Sunday afternoons. The 2 p.m. programs are free and tickets are not required. Seating is available on a “first come” basis. On April 7, the Ridgewood Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company will perform a concert production of “The Best of Gilbert and Sullivan.” For over 75 years, this opera company has delighted audiences with the timeless jollity of “The Pirates of Penzance,” “The Mikado,” and “H.M.S. Pinafore.” As one of the oldest continuing musical theater groups in the country, the company also performs G&S works that are seldom seen elsewhere, such as “Iolanthe,” “The Yeomen of the Guard,” “The Gondoliers,” “The Sorcerer,” and others. In addition, they bring joy to shut-ins by giving free shows for hospital patients, veterans, and residents of senior communities. The Ridgewood Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company, a nonprofit group, has presented full productions of the works of Gilbert and Sullivan on a regular schedule since its founding in 1937 by Kay and Jack Edson. On April 14, the library will host a performance by Carnaby Street. Featuring Chris Roselle on guitar and lead vocals, Chris Breetveld on bass guitar and background vocals, and Dino Dimartino on the drums and background vocals, this group transports listeners to the heart of pop music’s favorite era: the ‘60s. Featuring timeless songs from the Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, the Rolling Stones, the Kinks, the Who, the Moody Blues, Bob Dylan, and the Monkees, Carnaby Street revives the music that defines the mood of this unique period. In the event of inclement weather, call (201) 529-7323 for library closing information. ‘We’re Talking Baseball’ slated Dr. James Kane will present “We’re Talking Baseball” on Monday, April 8 at the Mahwah Public Library. The program will begin at 7 p.m. Kane’s program includes history and anecdotes that examine some of the national pastime’s most entertaining characters and situations, including the old Brooklyn Dodgers, and that most memorable summer of 1961, when the country was captivated by the home run race between two New York Yankees: Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris. The program will include a one-hour slide lecture and audio program, including the voice of legendary Brooklyn Dodgers announcer Red Barber. This program is free. Library hosts Movie Series The Mahwah Pubic Library, located at 100 Ridge Road in Mahwah, presents weekly movies on Thursdays at 1:30 p.m. During the month of April, the series will feature films nominated for Academy Awards. These films are free. Popcorn and a drink are provided. No tickets are necessary. Seats will be available on a “first come” basis. The schedule includes a screening of “Les Misérables” on April 4. In 19th-century France, Jean Valjean, who for decades has been hunted by the ruthless policeman Javert after he breaks parole, agrees to care for afactory worker’s daughter. The fateful decision changes their lives forever. The 158-minute movie stars Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, and Anne Hathaway, and is rated PG-13. On April 11, the feature will be “Zero Dark Thirty.” The film chronicles the decade-long hunt for al-Qaeda terrorist leader Osama bin Laden after the September 2001 attacks, and his death at the hands of the Navy S.E.A.L. Team 6 in 2011. The film stars Jessica Chastain, Joel Edgerton, and Chris Pratt, and is rated R for violence, including disturbing images, and for language. The film runs 157 minutes. “Life of Pi” will be presented April 18. A young man who survives a disaster at sea is hurtled into an epic journey of adventure and discovery. While cast away, he forms an unexpected connection with another survivor: a fearsome Bengal tiger. This film is 127 minutes. It stars Suraj Sharma, Irrfan Khan, and Adil Hussain, and is rated PG. On April 25, “Hitchcock” will be shown. This film features the love story between influential filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock and wife Alma Reville during the filming of “Psycho” in 1959. The movie stars Anthony Hopkins, Helen Mirren, and Scarlett Johansson. “Hitchcock” is rated PG13 and runs 98 minutes. Book donations sought The Ramapo Reformed Church will host a Used Book Sale on Saturday, April 27. The sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church located at 100 Island Road. Township budget (continued from page 12) After a lengthy discussion, no one took responsibilit for sending the police officers back to court on Tuesday nights. Councilman John Roth moved to reduce the police overtime budget by $100,000 and to accept Batelli’s recommendation to reduce the cost for police security in the court by $25,000. All the members of the council voted to approve that motion, except Charles Jandris. Councilman John Spiech was not present at the meeting. The budget will be considered for final adoption at the council’s April 18 meeting.
