Page 6 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • May 29, 2013 The Allendale Chamber of Commerce has announced that its inaugural Allendale Farmers Market will be open for business in Allendale’s New Jersey Transit Park & Ride lot on Saturday, June 1. Multiple vendors will set up behind the clock on Allendale Avenue from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The community is welcome. This event will be the first in a series of Chamber-sponsored markets, which will be held every Saturday from June through mid-November. “The Allendale Chamber of Commerce is excited that our dream of having a farmers market in town has become a reality! On June 1 at 10 a.m. the market will open. There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony -- not just for the market Inaugural Allendale Farmers Market set for June 1 but also because the benches sponsored by the Beautification Committee of the Chamber have also finally been installed this week,” Chamber President Nicolette “Nickie” Lisella said. “We want to be able to offer the community fresh, local foods as well as bring commerce into Allendale with the goal of supporting the local merchants. We have two farmers, honey, tea, coffee, baked goods, plants, cheese, and hopefully pickles. We’re still searching for vendors. I’d like to have breads, fish, and meats. We’ve been talking to Hoboken Farms which carries some of these items; we’re hoping they will commit. I’d also like to have fresh eggs. It’s a work in progress. We’re also still looking for a market manager.” She added, “I’m looking forward to Saturday. I hope the entire community will come out and support the market. After all, we are doing this for them and it’s important for the community to support the market and the vendors, of course.” Members of the Allendale Borough Council also supported the Chamber’s farmers market concept. Allendale Police Chief George Scherb recently reported that Sergeant Todd Griffith, the department’s traffic officer, would supervise the first farmers market to ensure pedestrian safety. Vendors who wish to participate in upcoming markets in Allendale are invited to call Lisella at (201) 825-0500.
