Godfrey Mpuuga Kasiita concluded his first trip to the United States with a May 12 visit to Trinity Episcopal Church in Allendale, where he served as the guest preacher. Kasiita is as an ambassador for the Tree of Life Ministries, which sponsors a school in Lukaya, Uganda, and is supported in the U.S. by Real Partners Uganda. He was able to meet many American supporters of this life-changing ministry for the first time. The children who are being afforded an exceptional education are Lukaya’s most vulnerable. It was the Griswolds’ vision to offer a superior education to those who had no hope. Children are sponsored by American families for about 50 cents a day ($180 a year). For 50 cents a day, children receive their education, uniforms, medical needs, and two daily meals. Others who are orphans and need boarding are sponsored for $550 a year, or about $1.50 a day. Mustard Seed Academy’s first Primary 7 class took its government exams this past year with unprecedented success, surpass- ing all other schools in the area. Of the 24 students, 100 percent passed: Nineteen earned the highest score, four received the second highest rating, and one student passed with a rating of “3,” which is still above the accepted passing score of “4,” which entitles students to enter the secondary level. Kasiita takes care of 12 children in his home as a result of family trial and tragedy, but embraces life’s journey and God’s call to love, educate, and unite.
