Residents are reminded to bundle papers in stacks no more than eight inches high and leave the bundles at the curb the night before the collection. Please note that any papers put at the curb after 8 a.m. on Saturday may be missed. Memorial Day Parade set The Waldwick American Legion and VFW will sponsor Waldwick’s Annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 27. Marchers will step off at 10 a.m. at Mackay Avenue and Franklin Turnpike. The parade will proceed south on Franklin Turnpike to East Prospect Street and end at Veteran’s Plaza. This year’s Grand Marshal will be Gold Star Mother June Augusta, whose son Sergeant Eric Hernandez gave his life while serving in Iraq on Dec. 4, 2007. Following the parade, refreshments will be served at the American Legion Post 57 at 46 Franklin Turnpike. During the event, the staff at Walgreens will be dispensing ice cold bottled water and other giveaways. Walgreens is a partner with the American Legion and VFW’s “One Box - One Soldier” program. Brendon Project announces dedication The Brendon Project, a grassroots organization established to honor those lost to addiction and to raise awareness of the need to find better answers in addiction treatment, has announced plans for a Bench Dedication Ceremony on May 25 at 1 p.m. The ceremony will be held in the Waldwick Borough Park and will mark the one year memorial service in celebration of Brendon Michael Campos of Waldwick, who passed away at 23. Brendon’s mother and sister, Christine Gregory Campos and Brianna Campos, will speak. Pastor Ray Muniz of Christ Community Church in Waldwick will perform the blessing. Representatives from The Brendon Project will hand out bracelets that say, “Think for Yourself.” The program strives to raise awareness in young people that they may have a bio-addictive chemistry, and therefore a much higher chance of becoming addicted. Library hosts programs for children The Waldwick Public Library offers a variety of weekly programs for young children. On Thursdays at 11:30 a.m., babies who are not yet walking are invited to a program of songs, rhymes, stories, finger plays, and activities to encourage literacy skills. Baby Time will run approximately 20 minutes, followed by 20 to 25 minutes of playtime. Toddler Story Time will meet on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. The session is open to toddlers through two-year-olds. The program features songs, books, rhymes, and stories, and runs approximately 25 to 30 minutes, followed by 20 to 25 minutes of playtime. Children who are at the walking stage through age four are invited to Let’s Move on Fridays at 10:30 a.m. The youngsters will boogie to music and play with scarves, shaky eggs, bean bags, and more. The library sponsors a preschool craft on Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Children accompanied by a parent or caregiver may drop in and complete a simple craft. Materials are provided. A preschool story time will offered on Tuesdays at 1:30 p.m. The program is suitable for children age three and up who are ready for longer stories. The session includes stories for 30 to 45 minutes followed by playtime. Children ages four through six are invited to participate in Book Bunch on Tuesdays at 3:30 p.m. Elementary school children who are five and up can Get Crafty on Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m. Materials are provided. School holds Art Festival Crescent Elementary School will hold its second annual Art Festival on Saturday, June 1 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Student art projects will be displayed throughout the campus and festival activities will include face painting, tattoos, hair wrapping, caricatures, and make your own tie-dye shirt. The event will also feature a DJ and refreshments. Crescent Elementary School is located at 165 Crescent Avenue in Waldwick. Summer Concert Series scheduled The Borough of Waldwick has announced the schedule for its Summer Concert Series. These free concerts are held at the Oval located at the intersection of Hopper Avenue and West Prospect Street. Concerts begin at dusk, except for the children’s concert. On May 22, Presley & Melody will perform a children’s concert at 7 p.m. Radio Nashville will perform on May 29. This country band covers the best modern country music. On Sept. 12, America’s #1 show band, “The Infernos,” will perform. Preschool program has openings Waldwick’s Integrated Pre-K class held at Julia A. Traphagen School still has a few openings. Fire department wets down new engine The Waldwick Volunteer Fire Department will hold a May 18 Wetdown to celebrate its new 2012 Pierce Arrow Engine. The event will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. in back of the public safety complex on Prospect Street. The festivities will include food, beverage, and music by Last Minute. All are invited. The department’s new $535,000 vehicle, which arrived in early January ahead of its spring delivery schedule, features a 750gallon water tank and a foam tank. The truck can accommodate eight firefighters, double the capacity of its 1985 predecessor. The vehicle incorporates the latest features in addition to many old ones, such as Police Department Report Officer Michael Sinclair arrested a 43-year-old Waldwick resident on March 24 and charged him with possession of marijuana. Officers were investigating a reported dispute which led to the discovery of the defendant being in possession of marijuana. On March 26, Officer John Greco arrested a 34-year-old Brooklyn, New York resident and charged him with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Officer Greco was investigating a suspicious person in the area of Crescent Avenue and Wyckoff Avenue, which led to the arrest. An Upper Saddle River resident was arrested March 29 and charged with underage purchase of alcohol after it was determined that he had used a counterfeit ID at a local business. The arresting officer was Kyle Moore. On March 30, Officer Chris Goodell arrested a 37-year-old Basking Ridge resident and charged him with driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit to breath testing, and reckless driving. The arrest occurred on Franklin Turnpike after the defendant was stopped for a motor vehicle violation. The following day, Officer Goodell arrested a 20-year-old Dumont resident and charged him with DWI and reckless driving. The arrest occurred on Wyckoff Avenue after the defendant was stopped for a motor vehicle violation. On April 5, Officer Brian Finale arrested a 42-year-old Waldwick resident and charged her with DWI, refusal to submit to breath testing, reckless driving, and driving with a suspended license. The arrest occurred on Cortlandt Street. Officer Michael Coletta arrested a 35-year-old resident of Dallas, Texas on April 20. The motorist was charged with DWI after being stopped for a motor vehicle violation on Route 17 North. The next day, Officer Coletta arrested a 23-year-old, Monroe New York resident and charged him with DWI after a motor vehicle crash on Route 17 South at Summit Avenue. On April 29, Officer Kyle Moore arrested a 32-year-old, Monroe, New York resident and charged him with possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle. The arrest was made after the defendant was stopped for a motor vehicle violation on West Prospect Street. Officer Chris Goodell arrested an 18year-old Mahwah resident on May 2 and charged him with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. The defendant was stopped for a motor vehicle violation on Hopper Avenue prior to his arrest. On May 4, Officer Brian Finale arrested a 23-year-old Ho-Ho-Kus resident and charged her with DWI, reckless driving, and possession of an open alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle.
