Girl Scouts to receive preservation award

Allendale resident Kevin Alward was recently honored by the Allendale Borough Council for his work donating SwiftReach Networks, an emergency notification service, to the borough’s residents. Alward is the chief executive officer of SwiftReach Networks, which sends out voice mail, e-mail, and text messages that help disseminate information during power outages and other emergencies. He was praised for bring information and comfort to residents of the borough. A life-long resident of Allendale, Alward and his wife Belinda have three children who attend Northern Highlands High School and Brookside School. He has been the chief fundraiser for the “Keep Our Police Safe” program, which donates bulletproof vests to the Allendale Police Department. He is also a Northern Highlands hockey coach and is active with the Boy Scouts. J. KOSTER
Borough council recognizes Alward
House/Concerned Citizens of Allendale for their DVD, “The Ghosts of Allendale,” based on the book by local author Jim Wright. The story is based on real-life events in the life of Revolutionary War hero John Fell. The girls will be honored for their creativity and hard work on a project that raises awareness of the importance of historic preservation in Bergen County. The girls realized the historic significance of the John Fell House, and this project will help to bring that realization to others. Their DVD is a contribution to Bergen County history that can be shared with families, students, and educators. The DVD will be used in education programs at the (continued on page 25)
