Four Republican council candidates will be on the June 4 primary ballot in Saddle River, and Rebecca Rogers and Elizabeth Salazer will be on the party line. In an April 18 letter to Saddle River Republican Club members, SRRC President Amy Fisher expressed her dismay that the club-endorsed candidates, Corrine Kerner and Ron Gray, did not receive the party line. “Corrine and Ron were unanimously selected to represent the SRRC with 116 votes at our April 3 meeting,” Fisher’s letter states. “Under normal circumstances, this would lead to their being given prime position on the ballot. However, after receiving the SRRC endorsement, they were required to enter their names into a drawing along with the names of the two remaining candidates, Rebecca Rogers and Elizabeth Salazer. This was at the direction of the County Republican Organization (BCRO) Chairman Bob Yudin. Again, Corrine and Ron prevailed…despite having cleared these two hurdles, Corinne and Ron are NOT receiving the line.” In a telephone interview last week, Yudin told Villadom TIMES the choice to award the party line to Rogers and Salazer was his. Yudin explained that, when he is making these decisions, he first checks to see if any incumbents are running. “That trumps all,” he said. “One incumbent, Karen Mastriano, filed, but dropped out.” Incumbent Councilman Dr. Warren Boardman did not file for reelection. Noting that he had to choose two candidates to run on the party line, Yudin said he consulted with the munici-

pal chair, Linda Rosato, who recommended Salazer and Rogers. Yudin said he then consults with the highest ranking
elected official, who, in this case, is Saddle River Mayor Samuel Raia. Raia, Yudin said, also recommended Salazer (continued on page 17)
Plans progress
SRVJWC hosted a Spring Launch Fashion Show at Neiman Marcus to benefit the Upper Saddle River Fire Department’s 9/11 Memorial Fund. Proceeds will benefit the memorial that will be located in front of the USR Fire Department. The memorial will showcase a steel beam from the World Trade Center. Donations for the 9/11 fund may be sent to USRFD, P.O. Box 274, Saddle River, NJ 07458. Donations are tax deductible.
