(continued from Restauran tpage) legendary monster, a creature nearly three centuries old and still shrouded in mystery. “The Frankenstein Theory” makes a far-fetched idea palatable by establishing that Venkenheim’s team members are skeptical of his obsessive mission. They wink, roll their eyes, and smirk. Viewers pretty much feel the same way, but are drawn in by these doubters. Director Andrew Weiner taps iconic source material, and his central character -- a more subtle form of the mad doctor -is an appropriate ingredient in this unrated DVD release. There are no bonus extras. “Carol Burnett: This Time Together” (Time Life) is a six-DVD set containing 17 complete episodes of “The Carol Burnett Show,” an entertainment staple on CBS for 11 years, from 1967 to 1978. Burnett and her cast -- Harvey Korman, Tim Conway, Vicki Lawrence, and Lyle Waggoner -- kept TV audiences in stitches with their parodies of motion pictures, original skits and characters, and appearances by guest stars. Featured in this set are Sammy Davis Jr., Dick Van Dyke, Steve Lawrence, Eydie Gorme, Madeline Kahn, Peggy Lee, Petula Clark, Bernadette Peters, Roddy McDowall, and Lily Tomlin. Classic sketches include “The Family” (later “Mama’s Family”), “Mrs. Wiggins,”
“As the Stomach Turns,” “The Ham Actor,” and “The Oldest Man.” Parodies include “TV Commercials,” “No Frills Airline,” “The Recital,” and a wonderful spoof in which Burnett as Esther Williams attends contract negotiations in her trademark bathing suit and sloshing sounds are heard every time she takes a step. The nearly two hours of bonus features include “This Time Together,” a cast reunion with Burnett, Lawrence, Conway, and Waggoner; a tribute to costume designer Bob Mackie; and interviews with Burnett, Conway, and Lawrence. “Adventures in Zambezia” (Sony Pictures Home Entertainment) is an animated film featuring the voice talent of Jeremy Suarez, Abigail Breslin, Jeff Goldblum, Leonard Nimoy, and Samuel L. Jackson. When a spirited young falcon named Kai learns of Zambezia, the fabulous city of birds, he leaves his remote country home against the wishes of his father. After his dad is captured by an evil lizard who plans to attack the city, Kai must learn the importance of teamwork if he is to rescue his father, save his new friends, and help keep Zambezia lizard-free. The film does not show traditional animated landscapes as in such films as “The Lion King.” The focus here is on soaring birds, and the action is set against the backdrop of a lush river valley. Animation is bright and colorful, and the assorted bird characters are distinctively rendered. The Blu-ray/DVD combo pack and DVD editions contain a music video and four behind-the-scenes featurettes.
