Page 4 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • March 20, 2013 Waldwick Moms in Motion, a local fitness team for women dedicated to fun, fitness and philanthropy, has committed to participating for the first time in this year’s Waldwick Chamber of Commerce 5K Run and expects to have as many as 40 members enter the race, scheduled for Sunday, April 28. “We decided to participate in the Waldwick 5K because it’s such a well-respected race in the area,” said Dana White of Waldwick, the club’s founder. “The course is well laid out and supported, and it really falls at a perfect time on our training calendar.” White explained that her training groups were able to have this race as a main focus over the past eight weeks, enabling them to have a goal at the end of a very long winter season, when staying motivated to exercise often becomes a challenge. She said that since many of the members are from Northern Bergen County, it made sense for them to participate in a local event that supports local organizations and charities. “The hometown feel of the race, with neighbors cheer- Moms in Motion team commits to Waldwick 5K Run ing in their front yards along the course, makes for an encouraging and welcoming setting for our team, for many of whom this will be their first 5K,” White said.. “There is no better place than the Waldwick 5K Run to remember as they cross the finish line for the first time,” said Race Director Stan Kowalski. He said he is excited about the Moms’ involvement, noting that 22 members have already signed up. “Having this organization participate in the Waldwick Chamber of Commerce 5K Run is a testament to the popularity of our event as it continues to grow each year! Our 5K Run is both fun and competitive,” Kowalski said of the Gran Prix-sanctioned event. White said she started Moms in Motion Bergen County in May 2012 because as a coach and a newcomer to New Jersey in the summer of 2010, she had a strong desire to meet other women with similar interests. “I know what fitness has done for me personally, and I wanted to be able to share that with others. I find that women are often times very intimidated with the gym scene. It’s so easy to get discouraged, and it’s increasingly difficult to find the time to exercise while juggling so many different things. Moms in Motion provides an opportunity for women to carve out some time for themselves in a nonthreatening environment. We have a wide range of ages and abilities. There is a place for everyone,” she explained. The 6th Annual Waldwick Chamber of Commerce 5K Run & 1 Mile Walk, which starts and finishes at the Waldwick High School track, is open to participants of all ages and features a fast scenic course, and many prizes and awards. Commemorative tee shirts and the “best goody bags in New Jersey” will be given to the first 450 registered participants. Massage Envy Spa of Waldwick returns as the presenting sponsor for the third year. Proceeds will benefit the Sean Fisher Foundation, Hope with Heart and Valley Hospital Butterflies program as well as school and volunteer organizations in the community.
