March 20, 2013 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 29 Waldwick Watch Easter Egg Hunt set The Allendale/Waldwick PBA Local 217 will hold its 19th Annual Easter Egg Hunt at the Waldwick High School Turf Football Field on March 23. (Rain date: March 30.) The event will begin at 10 a.m. and run until all the eggs are found. Admission is free. Children from Allendale and Waldwick will be grouped by age into the following categories: Toddler through kindergarten, children in grades one through three, and students in grades four and five. Participants will hunt for candy, and will have the opportunity to win prizes. The Easter Bunny will be on hand to pose for photos with the children. Register for Warrior Football & Cheerleading Registration for fall 2013 Waldwick Warrior Football & Cheerleading season will be held on Tuesday, March 19. Registration will take place in the Waldwick High School cafeteria from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. During the registration, children will be measured for equipment and photo cards will be made. Flag football and mini cheerleading programs are available for children who will be entering first and second grade in September. Cheerleading and tackle football programs are open to children who will be entering grades three through eight. Football players who attend registration night will receive a personalized practice jersey and cheerleaders who attend will receive a T-shirt. Middle School Activity Night set The Waldwick Municipal Alliance will host an Activity Night for students in grades six through eight on Friday, March 22. The event will be held in the all-purpose room at the Waldwick Middle School from 8 to 10 p.m. The Bergen County Sheriff’s Department will offer a K-9 Unit demonstration highlighting the functions and capabilities of these highly-trained dogs. The deadline for registration has been extended. Auxiliary hosts Fish & Chips Dinner The Waldwick Fire Department Auxiliary will host its annual Fish and Chips Dinner on Friday, March 22. This take-out dinner event offers a choice of fish and chips or chicken and chips, coleslaw and dessert. Pickup is available between 5:30 and 7 p.m. at the Waldwick Fire Department located at 15 East Prospect Street. The cost is $11 per person. Holy Week services announced The Waldwick United Methodist Church located at 25 Franklin Avenue welcomes everyone to its Holy Week services. On Palm Sunday, March 24, the service will be held at 10:30 a.m. At 7:30 p.m. on Maundy Thursday, March 28, the service will be held at Bergen Highlands United Methodist Church, which is located at 318 West Saddle River Road in Upper Saddle River. The 7:30 p.m. service will include a reenactment of the Last Supper. Congregations from Park Ridge United Methodist Church and Archer United Methodist Church are also invited. On Easter Sunday, March 31, the church will hold a Sunrise service at 8:30 a.m., coffee and bagels at 9 a.m., and the Easter service at 10:30 a.m. Library host historical programs for adults Chamber of Commerce plans 5K Run/1 Mile Walk The Sixth Annual Waldwick Chamber of Commerce 5K Run and 1 Mile Walk will be held on Sunday, April 28 at the Waldwick High School track. This is a Grand Prix sanctioned event with a fast scenic course, a track finish, and many prizes and awards. Participants of all ages are welcome. Commemorative T-shirts and the “best goody bags in New Jersey” will be given to the first 450 registered participants. For the third year, Massage Envy Spa of Waldwick will be the presenting sponsor. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Sean Fisher Foundation, Hope with Heart, Valley Hospital Butterflies, and school and volunteer organizations throughout the community. Armchair travelers and hiking enthusiasts are invited to the library on Thursday, April 11, at 7:30 p.m. when Eric Nelsen of the Palisades Interstate Park Commission will bring the history of the Palisades to life. Nelsen’s presentation will include a slideshow of bathing beaches and other facilities that ran at full-tilt during the earlier part of the twentieth century. On April 20 at 2 p.m., learn about the Titanic survivors and their stories. The Traveling Literary Theater will present amazing, heartfelt accounts of those who survived this maritime disaster. Experience the intimate and harrowing details of the Titanic’s ill-fated voyage through this fully staged and costumed event. The library is located at 19 East Prospect Street in Waldwick.
