Church marks Easter season Saint Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Ho-Ho-Kus will sponsor its annual Easter Food Drive on Palm Sunday, March 24. The food will be delivered to needy families in the area. The community is asked bring donations of non-perishable items, such as canned meats, vegetables, fruit, pasta, tea, coffee, rolls, sugar, fresh vegetables, hams, and supermarket gift cards to the church at 70 Sheridan Avenue in Ho-Ho-Kus. The food items may be left at the church entrance. On March 28, Saint Bart’s will host is annual Seder Supper at 6:30 p.m. in the parish hall. The menu, prepared by Devin Kreller Catering, includes roasted leg of lamb, bulgur pilaf, and vegetables. Desserts, wines, and nonalcoholic beverages will also be served. There will be a Passover program following Judeo-Christian traditions. Guests of all faiths are welcome. A donation of $20 per adult and $10 per child is suggested. Learn about memory loss The Ho-Ho-Kus Seniors group meets the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month in the Hermitage Education Building at 335 North Franklin Turnpike in Ho-Ho-Kus. Beverages and desserts are served at noon, and programs begin at 1 p.m., or as noted. Residents age 55 and up are welcome to attend. On March 26, the group will hear “Understanding Memory Loss,” which will be presented by a New Jersey Alzheimer’s Association representative. Contact Joan at (201) 444-4896 for program information. Contact Sue at (201) 444-7235 for trip information. Club host Bridge Party benefit The Woman’s Club of Ho-Ho-Kus will host its annual Bridge Party fundraiser on Friday, April 12. This event will be held at 12:30 p.m. at the Waldwick United Methodist Church at 25 Franklin Turnpike. The party will feature homemade desserts, coffee, tea, a prize basket fundraiser, and door prizes. Tickets are $15, and may be reserved by calling (201) 444-9389.

Contemporary Club sets parade The Contemporary Club of Ho-Ho-Kus will sponsor a parade featuring the Easter Bunny on Saturday, March 23 at 9:45 a.m. The parade will begin at the borough hall at 10 a.m. and will conclude at the Ho-Ho-Kus Public School on Lloyd Road, where refreshments will be served. Activities will include a jellybean counting contest, games, face painting, and photo opportunities with the Easter Bunny. Attendees are encouraged to bring a basket for the egg hunt. In the case of rain or snow, the events will be held s in the multi-purpose room of the Ho-Ho-Kus Public School at 10 a.m. Participants are required to wear rubber-soled shoes. Club seeks scholarship candidates The Contemporary Club of Ho-Ho-Kus will award one $2,000 scholarship to a high school senior from Ho-HoKus who demonstrates outstanding academic achievement, noteworthy extracurricular involvement, and meaningful community service. Candidates must have lived in HoHo-Kus for at least one year prior to the application date. Applications, along with a high school transcript, personal statement, a guidance counselor’s statement, and two references must be submitted by April 17. Applications are available at Northern Highlands Regional High School in Allendale, all local private school guidance departments, and at www.ccofhhk.com. On March 23, Ho-Ho-Kus Boy Scout Troop 54 will hold its annual Pancake Breakfast and Scouting for Food event at the Ho-Ho-Kus Community Church, 400 Warren Avenue. Ho-Ho-Kus Cub Scouts will deliver empty food bags to local homes over the next few weeks. The bags can be filled and left on front porches on March 23 before 9 a.m. The Scouts will be collecting the filled bags and transporting them to a local food bank. The food bags may also be brought to the Ho-Ho-Kus Community Church before 11 a.m. on March 23. While dropping off a food donation, be sure to have breakfast at the all-you-can-eat Pancake Breakfast available from 8 to 11 a.m. The cost for breakfast is $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and children under age 12.
Chamber hosts self defense seminar Ho-Ho-Kus Chamber of Commerce member American Eagle will present a Street Survival Self-Defense Seminar: “Two Master Instructors – Two Weapons – Two Hours of Defensive Tactics” on March 30. The program will be held 2 to 4 p.m. at 500 Barrett Place. Martial arts masters and weapons experts Phil Ross and Guy Velella will present this defensive tactics workshop on how to survive gun and knife attacks. Attendees will train in the proper situational responses to various attack scenarios. Ross and Velella have over 70 years of combined training and real life experience.
