Ho-Ho-Kus March 6, 2013 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 5 In recognition of his many years of service and leadership, Ho-HoKus Troop 54 Scoutmaster Robert Barone has been presented with the Williams Award. Named for former Scoutmaster Gus Williams, this award is presented only to those whose service to Scouting in HoHo-Kus has been extraordinary. Barone’s involvement began when he assisted his wife Donna in leading their son Brian’s Webelos pack. Barone became Cubmaster of Pack 54, and eventually served as Assistant Scoutmaster and then Scoutmaster of Troop 54. Over the years, he has organized and led countless weekend trips and numerous longer trips to camps and historical sights all across the United States. Observers say Barone’s ability Troop 54 Scoutmaster receives Williams Award to build rapport with Scouts and parents alike has led to the growth and strength of the Scouting program in HoHo-Kus. Barone’s service has continued long after his son Brian achieved Eagle Scout status. This award was also based upon Barone’s service to the community. He has served as a soccer coach, helped with school play productions, serves at dental clinics at nursing homes and in Newark (as did his own father), serves as a Eucharistic Minister at Saint Luke’s Church, and is a member of Ho-Ho-Kus Community Emergency Response Team, which pumped out basements and manned the K-8 school as an emergency shelter after recent hurricanes.
