Upper Saddle River attorney Gerald Richard Salerno recently became the 115th president of the 2,500-member Bergen County Bar Association. He was sworn in by Bergen County Superior Court Assignment Judge Peter E. Doyne. Salerno is a partner with the Hackensack Law Firm of Aronsohn, Weiner, and Salerno, P.C. His practice primarily focuses on complex civil and commercial litigation, commercial transactions, and zoning and land use. Salerno graduated magna cum laude from Seton Hall University and obtained his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center in 1985. After graduation, he clerked for Criminal Assignment Judge Charles R. Di Gisi. He was admitted to the Bar of the State of New Jersey in 1985, and thereafter to the U.S. District Court, District of New Jersey; the U.S. Supreme Court; and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Third Circuit.

Salerno received the Bergen County Legal Services Pro Bono Award for his representation of an indigent defendant in a challenge to Megan’s Law, which was ultimately appealed to the United States Supreme Court. He was appointed by the New Jersey Supreme Court to the Committee on Character. Salerno has been actively involved in the community coaching in the youth football, baseball, soccer, and softball programs. He has resided in Upper Saddle River with his wife Diane since 1995. They are the parents of Catherine, Christopher, and Caroline.
