Page 10 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • June 26, 2013 Waldwick The Borough of Waldwick stands to make $500 a month by adding a couple of repeaters to its police antenna tower adjacent to the public safety building. Borough Administrator Gary Kratz told the mayor and council at a recent meeting that he had been approached by a Verizon Wireless representative to allow the small antennas to go on the side of the tower. “It’s not a standard cell antenna. It is a repeater which amplifies the signal, and it will give us $6,000 a year,” Kratz said. He said a support cabinet would be erected at the base of the tower, but that it would fit within the confines of the structure. “It doesn’t look offensive. It has a modest box, and it will not affect other services,” said Councilman Don Scio- Two new antennas proposed for police communications tower laro in supporting the proposal. Kratz explained that the proposal would have to be bid out so that other companies which might be interested in a similar option can get the same opportunity. He added that he had not been approached by anyone else, however. He said the cost to the borough to go out to bid would be minimal. Councilman Greg Bjork said Kratz should check with other neighboring towns to find out if the $500 a month Verizon is offering is a fair price. “Check and see how much they have offered other towns,” Bjork said. Councilman Andrew Brennecke abstained, as he works for Verizon. Again this year, the Borough of Waldwick will be sending out estimated tax bills to all taxpayers for the third quarter. Actual 2013 tax bills cannot be mailed by the customary July1 date due to the late adoption of the state budget and the release of state aid figures. Lacking that information, the Bergen County Board of Taxation is unable to certify tax rates throughout Bergen County. “It helps with the cash flow to send out the bills on time,” said Councilman Don Sciolaro, the finance committee chairman. “If we are off, it gets adjusted in the fourth quarter.” Borough Administrator Gary Kratz said the estimated amount would be very close to the final figure. He said Residents to get estimated tax bills the homestead rebate would be incorporated in the estimates. The estimated rate on the $38,361,496 that must be raised by taxation is set at $2.464 per $100 of assessed valuation. This rate breaks down as follows: 0.523 for municipal purposes; 0.032 for the public library; 1.672 for school purposes; 0.005 for local open space – all based on adopted budget figures; and 0.229 estimate for county purposes; and 0.003 estimate for county open space. Total ratables in the borough total $1,557,118,000. Payment will be due by Aug. 5 or 25 days after the bills are mailed, whichever is later. Taxpayers already pay estimated amounts for the February and May quarters.
