(Rain date: July 6.) The day will begin at 7 a.m. with a flag raising and morning salute at Memorial Park. The ceremony will be conducted by the Boy and Girls Scouts of Allendale. A full day of activities and entertainment at Crestwood Park has been planned by the Holiday Observers. Registration will be held from 8 to 8:30 a.m. at the grandstand, where a host of athletic events will take place. Children may participate in a lollipop race; three-legged race; sack race; 50-, 60-, 75-, and 100-yard dashes; crab race; waterfall race; softball and football throws; and the running broad jump. Children will be grouped by age. Awards will be presented for first through fourth place winners. Activities for adults will include the Walt Anderson Memorial Fun Run (1.5 miles), a ladies’ rolling pin throw, water balloon toss, and men’s horseshoe pitching contest. The all-star baseball and softball games will begin at 1 p.m. There will be a band concert at 7:30 p.m., and the fireworks display will follow at 9 p.m. Admission to the fireworks is by ticket only. Board of education to meet The Allendale Board of Education will meet on Monday, June 24 at 8 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Brookside School Library located at 100 Brookside Avenue. Learn about the service academies Representatives from the U.S. Service Academies will present an informational session on West Point, Annapolis, and the Air Force and the Merchant Marine academies on Tuesday, June 18. The program will be held at Northern Highlands Regional High School, 298 Hillside Avenue in Allendale, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Area students in all grades who are considering attending one of the nation’s academies are welcome. Rotary hosts Benefit Mondays The Allendale Saddle River Rotary Club will hold Benefit Mondays this month at Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza located at 984 State Route 17 in Ramsey. Diners who mention the Allendale Saddle River Rotary Club to their server will have a portion of their dining bill donated by the restaurant to the club. The Allendale salary ordinance, which covers fulltime and part-time employees of the borough, was introduced at the council’s June 14 public meeting. The ordinance will be considered for final adoption at next week’s public council session. The ordinance, which provides ranges for employees below the executive level and independent of the police department and public works employees, provides a range of $40,000 to $57,000 for the bookkeeper, $35,000 to $50,000 for the finance clerk, $30,000 to $45,000 for The Allendale Saddle River Rotary Club supports local non-profits and offers scholarships to local high school students through its fundraising efforts.
