Borough gets partial reimbursement from FEMA
Sandy in October, 2012. “I’m very surprised and appreciative,” said Borough Administrator Gary Kratz. “Never before did we get any-
thing so quickly. In previous storms it took nine months or more to get reimbursed, and there were no interim payments,” he added. The borough submitted four claims totaling $237,411.76 for reimbursement from the storm, the largest being $195,755.57 for debris removal. The claim for police protection amounted to $16,025.04, which included the cost for police patrols stationed at gas stations to direct traffic and keep order during the blackout. The shortage of available gas resulted in long lines and, at times, drivers’ tempers flaring. The other two claims were $21,976.15 for the use of the generators and $3,655 for property damage. Kratz said he believes the total FEMA reimbursement will be $183,552.86, so about $100,000 more is still due. The federal disaster program covers about 75 percent of the total costs, he said. The administrator said once the funds are received they will go into the surplus account to be budgeted next year, since this year’s budget is already finalized.
For better vision
