The event, held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. will feature ice cream, strawberries on a homemade biscuit or pound cake, and a beverage. The social will take place rain or shine. The cost for a full portion is $6 per person and $3 for a half portion. Takeout orders will be available. For tickets, call the church office at (201) 652-5130. Needleworkers sought Knitters, crocheters, and needlepointers are invited to the Waldwick Library, 19 East Prospect Street in Waldwick, on Tuesdays at 1 p.m. to practice their craft and socialize with other needlework enthusiasts. The Wicked Stitches group will meet in the library’s new meeting room. Needleworkers at all levels of mastery are welcome. The group plans to periodically include a professional guest instructor. Scholarship Dance slated The Waldwick High School Scholarship Dance will be held Saturday, June 22 from 8 p.m. to midnight in the high school cafeteria. The benefit, which is open parents, alumni, and guests, will fund two scholarships for the Class of 2014. Held on the evening after the high school’s Graduation Ball, the event will feature entertainment by a DJ and the decorations and activities set up for the students. The high school is located at 155 Wyckoff Avenue. Blood Drive announced The Waldwick American Legion Post 57 will hold a Red Cross Blood Drive at 46 North Franklin Turnpike on Sunday, June 23. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Donors may register online and select a time slot. Walkins the day of the event will also be accepted. Cassel to speak On June 27, Michelle Cassel, founder of College Search Navigators, will present practical advice on how to find the right school and how to get an application noticed. Cassel’s program will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Waldwick Public Library. High school students who are beginning the college search process and their parents are invited to this free talk. Summer Explorers Camp offered The Traphagen Summer Camp has expanded this year to include technology and physical education programs in addition to its art and music sessions. Camp dates will be July 1 through 29, from 9 a.m. to noon. Camp will not be held July 4 or 5. The standard camp program is open to children who will be entering grades one through five. Students who will be entering grades two through five are eligible for an hour of art or technology, and children entering grades four through six may participate in instrumental music. Summer Explorers options include: Option 1 for $300 will include three hours of instruction in art, physical education, and technology. Instrumental music will be included for those who qualify. Option 2 for $175 will include one hour of instruction in one of the following areas: art, instrumental music, or technology. Students who will be entering sixth grade may choose one hour of either art or music. Option 3 will include three hours of instruction in physi- cal education and theme days for $300. A two-week offering is available at reduced rates for students enrolled in a CCD program. A sibling discount is available for those who attend the four-week, three-hour program. Pricing is as follows: $300 for the first child, $250 for the second child, and $225 for the third child. Alumni soccer game benefit set The Third Annual Waldwick High School Alumni Soccer Game to support the Michael Robert Mayer Memorial Scholarship will be held on Saturday, June 29. The game will be held at 2 p.m. at the Waldwick High School stadium field. (Rain date: June 30.) In 2011, the Waldwick soccer community lost one of its own when Mayer, a multi-year varsity letterman and past captain of the 2009-10 Waldwick High School Boys Varsity Soccer team, passed away at 19. In his honor, the Michael Robert Mayer Memorial Scholarship was created for those students who displayed courage, strength, and loyalty throughout a personal ordeal. Participants in the game will include players and coaches from past Waldwick High School soccer teams. Admission is $5 per person with all proceeds being used to fund a scholarship in Mayer’s memory. Sports poster sponsors sought The athletic department at Waldwick High School is seeking community sponsors for its sports poster program. Funds raised by the sale of the posters will benefit athletics at the school. All American Sports Posters has been contracted to produce the posters.
