“We are so proud of Veronica for distinguishing herself in a very competitive field,” said Library Director Samantha Cordaro McCoy. “She follows in the footsteps of our Youth Services Librarian Gretchen Kaser, who won the scholarship in 2011, and of our past Interim Director Tara Franzetti, who was the beneficiary in 2008. It is a tribute to the professionalism of our staff that they have received this recognition time and again. The community is richer for their dedication, as the opportunity to advance their education ultimately benefits our patrons.”
“By awarding these scholarships, we are encouraging people, many of whom already work in our libraries, to continue their education and grow in the profession,” said BCCLS Executive Director Robert White. Since 2002, BCCLS has awarded over 70 scholarships totaling more than $80,000. In accepting the scholarship, Potenza agrees to work in a public library for at least two years after completing her degree, a requirement she believes will be easy to fulfill. “Working at Lee Memorial Library, I have found my passion,” she said.
Candidates for the Allendale K-8 and Northern Highlands Regional High School boards of education filed their petitions last week in anticipation of the Nov. 5 election. Allendale K-8 Allendale Board of Education President Melissa Duncan will not be alone on the ballot in November, but she was the only candidate listed by Bergen County for the autumn election. The other candidate is expected to be the replacement for incumbent trustee John Geraghty, who has resigned for business reasons. Geraghty, an executive, sent a letter to the K-8 board in time to be dropped from the November ballot, but his interim replacement has not yet been chosen. Officials believe a replacement will be named some time after Geraghty makes his per-

Robert Wei, who served on the Upper Saddle River K-8 board for seven years, and Ann Pagano had unseated previous incumbents to win election to the regional board, where Dr. Robert Hand, a pediatric physician with a local practice, is now also an incumbent. Allendale, which also has voting rights in the regional district, will not field any candidates in the November election. The Northern Highlands Regional High School Board of Education also accepts students from Saddle River and Ho-Ho-Kus.
