Page 12 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • June 12, 2013 Ho-Ho-Kus Federer, Langevin to compete for board seat by Jennifer Crusco Ho-Ho-Kus voters will be asked to choose between incumbent trustee Colleen Federer and challenger Amy Langevin in the Nov. 5 general election, when one, threeyear seat will be available on the board of education. Federer is a regional sales vice president for a major insurance company. She is the current board president and is now running for a third term. Prior to becoming president, she served for three years simultaneously on both the Northern Highlands Regional High School and Ho-Ho-Kus K-8 boards of education. She currently chairs the Borough Liaison Committee and recently spearheaded the district’s bond refunding, which resulted in approximately $600,000 of savings to Ho-Ho-Kus taxpayers. Federer and her husband Fred have been Ho-Ho-Kus residents for 17 years. Their two children will enter eighth grade in the fall. Next year, Federer will have five nieces and nephews in the Ho-Ho-Kus School. “I have a vested interest in our success,” she said. “I initially ran for a seat on the Ho-Ho-Kus Board of Education because I believed that we had an exceptional school district. I am running again because I want to help maintain the outstanding quality of education and continue to work for even higher standards. I have had the privilege of serving with incredibly talented and dedicated people who have never been driven by an agenda. It has always been about acting in the best interests of every single child in the district.” She added, “Ho-Ho-Kus lost nearly $1 million in state aid overnight. Nevertheless, we have worked hard to maintain and rebuild programs and I give the administration, faculty, and staff a great deal of credit for all we have accomplished in a few years. I believe that I bring to the board a great deal of understanding and perspective as to where we have been and a vision for where we want to go.” Langevin has been a Ho-Ho-Kus resident since 1999, and currently has two children in the school system. She earned a degree in accounting from Ramapo College and now works for KPMG in a human resources/ budget (finance) position. She supports volunteerism in the school and in the community. She is a supporting member of the Ramapo College ENACTUS program – a student/ business leader partnership supporting an entrepreneurial spirit and global sustainability, and a parishioner of Church of the Presentation in Upper Saddle River. Langevin has supported the Ho-Ho-Kus/Waldwick Cooperative Nursery School in key roles. “I have a strong desire to support the outstanding education standards of our school, along with building an open relationship with our entire community,” Langevin said. “I am hoping that the long term interest that I have demonstrated in our school highlights my commitment to this role.” Langevin invites the community to “like” her on Facebook at Amy 4 HHK BOE.
