Ho-Ho-Kus Councilwoman Maryellen Lennon, the governing body’s liaison to the school board, told her peers on the council last week that school representatives have asked the borough to consider installing signs allowing threehour parking on Lloyd Road. That street is the location of the borough’s only school building. Lennon explained that district officials believe commuters have been parking their cars on the street, which becomes extremely congested with vehicles during school drop off and pick up times. The councilwoman added that she recently tried to wait on Lloyd Road in an informal effort to assess the situation. Joining forces Volunteers from Ho-Ho-Kus, Waldwick, and Ramsey joined forces to man the first aid station for the Franklin Lakes Lacrosse Tournament held last month. Volunteers were on hand from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days. She said that, on one recent evening between 6:15 and 6:45 p.m., she did not see much activity in terms of people arriving to enter vehicles parked on Lloyd. Ho-Ho-Kus Mayor Thomas Randall said the governing body would seek input regarding this issue. He acknowledged that there is sometimes “creep” into neighborhoods as commuters seek places to park during the work day. “We don’t want to affect the residents who park there,” Randall continued, adding that the council would consider “a targeted response if there is a problem there.” The council also acknowledged that parking space, which is at a premium in downtown Ho-Ho-Kus, is also being studied by the Ho-Ho-Kus Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber recently conducted a survey of local business people, and will be working with the municipality to ameliorate the parking situation. A report is anticipated in the near future. Deborah Ferrara, the public school’s superintendent, told Villadom TIMES that approximately 8-10 cars park all day on Lloyd Road. She indicated that the cars that have been parking there have become more noticeable in recent months. She indicated that the board of education’s committee, which acts as a liaison to the Ho-Ho-Kus Borough Council, had “put out feelers” regarding a potential solution to this issue. Committee members include trustees Colleen Federer and Ellen Walsh. Asked about current parking limits on Lloyd Road, Ferrara said there is now a three-minute limit in the school drop off zone at the beginning of the school day and at pick up time.
